VTEC works based on oil pressure, so if your pan is dented and blocking the pickup tube, you won't have high enough oil pressure to activate the system.

Also you need to check your vtec soleniod screen if its clogged up, that will also cause this.

Look below:

and with that try to check if its actually going bad. I have replaced 1 before. If you take a regular c or d battery and attach wire to the end of the battery and attach them to the vtech see if its activiting.

I have tried the vtec solenoid etc. I even took the noid off from a jdm f20b civic that vtec pops in. The oil pressure will rise to 85 psi on a cold idle at 4k rpm. Once the car is at normal temp, the oil pressure will not rise past 62 psi UNLESS I unhook the vtec noid. It will rise to a tad over 70 psi. Is it just that my pump is weak and once the oil is warmed up in thins out?? IDK. I am just curious if anyone has ever seen this. There is not a dent in my pan, and my pickup tube is wide open. It has to be the pump. That's all there is to it. I just didn't want to pull the motor back out if I didn't have to ... cause it is OHHH SOOO CLEAN!!!
Thanks for the input guys.
