any codes?

Describe "breaking up" - is this misfiring?

Make sure that all the plug wires are on all the way on both ends. If not it can misfire.

But idk because it doesn't do it all the time. When I give it gas it's like it's popping out the exhaust close to a backfire

set your distributor to full advance see what that does....

loosen the 3 12 mm bolts on the distributor and push the distributor toward the firewall as far as you can go.

and come back and tell me what happens

also,i could be wrong here. but it could be a fuel system fluke right? fuel pump not pushing fast enough, injector fowling out, bad fuel filter.
