CATCO or Carsound?
hey was wondering which would be able to provide better gains for the dollar in a 2.5 high flow cat. i have narrowed it down to these two because of the information i have found on the web about them as well as the information i obtained in the archives. the carsound ususally goes for around 175 and the catco is about 120, they both have decent warranties but i am unable to make a decision on this because i have not gotten any bad feedback on these two manufacturer's. any help would be greatly appreciated. it's for a n/a car with an aem cold air intake - rsr catback with custom 2.5" mandrel bent tubing - comptech 4-2-1 tig welded header with 2.5" outlet. future plans are for itr springs&retainers and cams with gears that are adjustable - upgraded fpr - upgraded fuel pump - itr injectors and fuel rail - and an ecu done up by hondata to control all of this madness.

well iam goin gto get a straight pipe. after all i have hears about the heat shields rattling and the filters inside braking apart. i figure if i am gonna want real noticable gains no restriction is betterthen a little. besides i can't justify spending that much money on a cat. i'd rather spend the fifty on the test pipe and change it out before i have to do my emmissions check. easier then calling up a company and telling them that their products suck and you need a warranty.
you can do that, but cats really arent all that much. Plus a test pipe smells awful when your turbo timing or sittin at a stop light, and i'm not sure about where you are, but here in houston its a $10,000 fine without a cat.
If anyone is thinking of eliminating the cat ... don't. It sucks. It smells bad, there isn't a noticeable difference in hp, it's illegal and tickets are $$$, it pollutes, and it's not fun doing exhaust work to swap in and out for emissions testing. I did it on my M3 and I'll never do it again.
Hey, what's the use of a cat converter? I want to custom pipe my exhaust to 2.25 and put on a muffler, but I've read people also getting a carsound cat converter. This this help increase horses? Thanks!
not fan of test pipes or stright piping when doing an exhaust system. Im not a huge enviromental kinda either. Just dont prefer the smell of it.
I have a carsound on the LS and a catco was put on my newly aquired nissan about a year ago. On the nissan the exhaust, as is the rest of the engine, completely stock with the exception of the catco universal weld-on. I notice a slight change in sound. Nothing offensive, at least not to me. And as far as gains from it i dont notice any..but then again, the car is completely stock.
The Carsound on the other hand resulted in noticeable highend difference. However on the LS has aftermarket catback exhaust system as well as a header but i did feel a difference afterwards.
hope that helps any.
