Default need engine swap insight

Hi all. I'm brand new to Honda and to this site.
I am the owner of a del sol 1993 auto d16z. And the motor is now junk. I'd like to swap in a b16 or 18 with a 5 speed but I don't know which is best. I want to keep cost down but make a. Fun daily driver. I see the torque is higher on the b18 and horse is higher on some 16's. Should I go vtec or non?
Thanks in advance

Here is where to start ---> Read the engine swap links in the FAQs sticky, and also visit the Hybrid forum.

What makes you think your d16z6 is blown?

If repairable i would keep the d16z6 and turbo it. GREAT motors

Best for what?

A LS/b20 and a GSR transmission can make a nice fun daily, but so could a GSR swap.

OP also hasn't told us where he's from. A B20 swap into a passenger car is federally illegal in the U.S.

The B18 would be a better choice. Most people will tell you to get a vtec motor. The B16 block is basically just a shaved B18 with a different rotating assembly. The B18C1 or B18C3 are generally the most common of the breed. The C5 is the ITR motor, and will offer more power, but will also be considerably more expensive. I'm a fan of the B18B1, AKA the "LS motor".

Given the choice of B16 or B18, B18 any day of the week.

Thank you to everyone who replied I welcome all of your input...like I said I'm new to this I just bought the Del Sole it ran poorly and I ended up pulling the head because oil and water where mixing and found stripped head bolts so I time serted those. I checked for warpage etc...and after running five minutes the keyway on the cam sheared off. And it looks like oil and water are still mixing. I should say I do know what I'm doing. I just stepped into something that the previous owner set me up with. The engine was not all together when I got it. I think he knew it was junk. So I am ready to do a swap and also make it a five speed. If I go to a b engine will my same harness work? Or should I pull the plug on this project before I have a small fortune in this rust bucket?

i personally prefer the b18's low end over the b16s vtec
as for the d16 i would part out what you can salvage from the motor and get an ls. if you get the earlier years they will be obd1 which will mkae wiring easier.
You could also get another d16z6 for around 500 dollars easily.
i have one for sale actually

Op yes you can use your OEM wiring harness but not the ecu since its A/T (i could be wrong)

As far as a b series swap i would save the money and either rebuild your d16z6 or get a new one if it is not salvagable. and Build it for BOOST.

harness can be reused with some modification, but you have extra plugs hanging there from the auto stuff.

ECU needs to be for the engine, or jump it to OBD1 and chip the ecu, and have it tuned.

First thing is make sure you know what you're doing.

Now this is just my opinion but if you want the cheapest swap, find a completely totaled car with the engine you want. if you can't find one that you can get to, b18a/b or b20 are about the cheapest engine/tranny sets you can get. If you do buy one of those, go to http://hmotorsonline.com/ or http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/ both have ecu and wiring harness included or available with the engines. I've bought engines from both companies and have never had any problems.

Not a bad idea to buy a wrecked Integra. I have looked...but most of what I find have mega miles. I'll probably end up with a jdm swap. I prefer to leave it boosted and steer clear of heavy internal mods. So do u think it's worth the extra $ to get a gsr or just stick with LS? I know it's all opinion. But I'm asking those who have been there done that.

b18a1 b18b1 is a great BLOCK for either all motor or BOOST!!!!

Ls blocks with no mods (healthy engine) have seen upwards of 350-400 horsepower on a good tune on boost.
