Default Vtec Solenoid Issue

So my 98 ek 4 door has been recently began to leak some serious amounts of oil. Come to find out its got a 96 ex head on it ( code P2J-2 ). Well when the previous owner had this wok done they put the wrong vtec solenoid on, theres a fourth hole/port beside the bottom bolt that is only half covered. This is where all my oil has been leaking from. I just need to know what the correct solenoid is for this head.

If the VTEC solenoid I posted does not fit, then you must not have a 96 D16Y8 head.

Edit: P2J-2 may come from an automatic D16Y8:

But the VTEC solenoid part numbers are the same for auto and manual.

The code on the head is P2J-2, which from what i believe i know to be a 96 d16y8 head. i just don't get why that hole on the bottom is not covered. i have that same Vtec solenoid you mentioned and it doesn't fit, is there something else i should be looking for ? im at a loss for words at this point ...

Hmmm...the head and solenoid mating surfaces and the gasket look different from this service manual picture:

I think that picture is from a B-16...or a D16Z6
Check the pics in this thread and compare:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/vtec-solenoid-gasket-2933066/

D16Y8 and D16Z6 solenoids here:

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/d16y8-vtec-solenoid-2921132/

Now I'm really stumped cuz I can't find a cylinder head with that hole pattern :/

The D16Y8 and B16a2 VTEC solenoid gaskets are very similar if not identical.

B16a2 for comparison to diagram I posted above:

Are you sure (maybe I'm just tired here...)

I just checked my D16Y8 solenoid in my closet and that's the same solenoid he has going by the gasket pattern:

That wouldn't fit the B16 or D16Z6, but that's besides the point here.
I'm starting to think he doesn't have a P2J head on that thing...or at least, I can't find a good cylinder head picture with that kind of fourth oil passage
:/
Weird custom work?

EDIT: my bad, found a decent P2J image. There IS a fourth passage there:

But what the heck VTEC solenoid gasket covers that?
@.@

I'm not absolutely sure, but I was going by the two illustrations from the service manual that I posted.

The bottom solenoid in your first post appears to be for the D16Y8, whereas OP's solenoid is clearly different.

Edit: Now I'm worried about the service manual illustrations because the same picture is used in the 92-95 Civic service manual for the D16Z6 engine.

Nope, the top one is for the Y8 (matches with other pics on google image search)

And check this out:
http://www.d-series.org/forums/engin...l-ports-2.html
http://www.civicforums.com/forums/18...anoid-off.html
Apparently, he's not the only one with this wacky problem...that hole isn't a port at all. And I seem to recall wondering about it myself when I did my own mini-me swap a few years back (basically: wtf's the point of this thing?)
If it's leaking from there, the casting is cracked
