is it worth getting a B16b?
ok, so i am planning on buying a complete JDM 1999 civic type r swap from a shop for 2800 obo.. meaning most likley the dude at the shop will settle for 2500 maybe. hes got a couple swaps left and as all JDM engines, claim they have less than 50k on it. i was wondering if spending $2500 on a complete swap for my 97 EK coupe worth it? is there better swaps for less out there? are there better deals out there? I am not planning to turbo my motor, i just want a b series motor with vtec to give it some speed. just focused on a decent motor swap now that i am done with my suspension. thanks
As a person with a B16B I would say yes, especially for that price. I have not one complaint about spending the money for the R motor. I get on average 30mpg in the Db with the motor. I would buy another one if I needed it.
A cracking engine out of the box, I had one swapped into my EK4 and it managed to keep pace with a friends ITR pretty well. I found it exactly like the B16a off cam, it had a more aggressive VTEC engagement, and pulled hard right up to the 8600rpm redline where the B16a started tailing off at around 7500. Proper screamer of an engine, and felt really smooth being such a short stroke, long rod motor. I blew one up (had been running on ITBs prior to me
buying it and had obvisouly knackered the rings) so I bought a second one. Paid £500 here for the bare engine.

the motor every1 is going to compare to that is a usdm GSR motor. and depending on price. i would typically say the GSR is a better deal. normally cheaper and more TQ for daily driving. i would look into getting a GSR motor. if you cant find one for cheaper than the B16b, then go ahead and get the b16b.
Personally, I would say no. Especially if it's a daily driver.
First motor I put in my car was the 6b. At first it was a blast because it was my first swap, the car wasn't daily driven so whenever I drove it - it felt like a rocket. I quickly learned that torque is more important than horsepower, but I wanted to try and build the 6b in a way that I could "make up" for the lack of displacement. I did some decent sized cams that liked high rpms and extremely close gearing from MFactory. It was fun, but it got old - quick. The car was always noisey, always above 3,500 rpms and sat right at 5k in fifth gear @ 70mph. Terrible mileage for a 1-6. And this is in a hatch, your coupe is obviously a little heavier. I would do a 1.8 if I were you man...having to rev everytime you want to go anywhere gets old and draws too much attention(for me).

you would be alot happier with a 1.8L
my first swap was a usdm gsr into my eg hatch and then found a jdm itr swap for 2500.. so i bought it and its a blast to drive.. real screamer and i been happy ever since.. the price tag is kinda high for a ITR, i wouldnt go with anything smaller than a 1.8

what you said made a lot of sense. but do you think that ctr swap's price range is too high? how much u think a gsr swap would cost?

I haven't priced motors in a while, I built my current motor from sourcing parts. But if I had to buy a swap, it would be from HMotors. Or I would do an H2B.
