b16 cranks but no start (NEED INPUT!)
I've put about 6,000 miles on my recently built b16A in my eg hatch. Car runs spectacular, pulls hard, I'm extremely happy with the outcome of the build... So about 2 weeks ago I come home from work like always, run a couple of errands, no problems. The next morning I go to leave for work and the car will not start, It'll turn over for days, but no start. I take my truck to work instead and when I return home that evening the car starts right up. It's been doing this intermittently for the past 2 weeks. I work as a mechanic for a living and like to think I'm fairly capable with most cars (especially Hondas). I work at an independent shop which allows me the benefit (or curse) of working on all makes and models of cars and this problem has beat me into the ground. Basically when the problem is happening, Im getting no spark. Everything else acts normal, CEL goes off, I hear fuel pump prime and main relay click, but when I crank it turns over but doesnt start. As I start going through the testing motions I find its getting fuel but has no spark. Its hard to trouble shoot b/c it only happens so often (usually when I'm out and about, lol)Ive replaced coil, igniter, tested ecu, ohmed out all wires that go from ecu to dizzy (continuity on all). I'm all out of ideas, I've researched this to no avail. If anybody has any ideas please don't be afraid to post, I need all the help I can get
I've thought about that. That was my next step. Just have to wait for some money to get a dizzy. I dont know anybody with an obd 1 DOHC VTEC to try. It's so hard to troubleshoot, the damn thing only acts up when I have no tools available. It does seem to be happening more often now though. My boss actually said the same thing "probably the pickup going bad" Thanks for the reply dude
So I had today off work and figured Id test every thing I could think of. I was hoping it wouldn't crank today but of course it cranked right up all day long. I've eliminated these possibilites: ECU, all wires seem to be good (In the process of the swap I rewired anything suspect and loomed it all up right) to dizzy and ignition switch, I also performed the ignition switch test per the honda manual. As stated before I've already replaced or coil, igniter, main relay, and alternator (for a different reason)...and all of this checks out fine! I don't beleive there is much left (if I forget anything please don't hesitate to chime in!) I'll be ordering a new dizzy tomorrow. I really feel that is the problem. If anybody has anything to add with experiences they've had, please let me know....thanks to everyone for your help
Same me no spark. I found bad igniter then I replace it and my motor run again.
Check 12V to coil (+Terminal) when turn on the ignition switch.
Check Coil, measure a resistance between A-B(0.3-0.8 ohm)and A-second terminal spring(13-19k ohm).
Check continue A21,A22 wire to igniter and igniter to coil - terminal
If everything look fine, I expect that you had a bad igniter
