no speedometer but cruise works
just bought a 94 civic ex for next to nothing and now comes the fun part. getting it up to snuff. ive been all over the internet and it obvious honda tech is the most knowledgeable group by far. ive been over and over posts but cant find anyone in my exact predicament. speedometer works on occasion, cruise always works. ive cleaned up terminals at vss, they were corroded, resoldered cluster, ohms checked yellow-white to yellow-blue wire. i assume if cruise is working the vss has to be working. i got good resistance on ohms test and about 5 volts at vss connector. the speedometer does seem to quit or start working when i hit a hard bump or rr tracks but when i shake the cluster it doesnt seem to have any effect. sorry for the long first post. i appreciate any suggestions. on a side note. i was happy to get an ex thinking i was getting top of the line only to find out its from canada and they dont come with air conditioning. that was a bummer.
Yeah that's what I was thinking . Was at the junk yard today and had a chance to get one but passed. Wish I would of now. Just drove about 15 miles and it worked fine. A few mph's off , but worked. Its amazing how intermittent it is.
The fact it was from Canada isn't the reason it doesn't have A/C. The reason is that the original owner didn't add that option when they bought it, regardless of country of provenance.
As for your speedo issue: sometimes the speedos die on these things. Same thing happened to a 93 Si that I bought, which, in fact, WAS a USDM vehicle, meaning I wanted to change out the speedo anyway to one that had dominant km/h markings on the dial since I am in Canada. Since yours is apparently a CDM car, and (I presume) you are in the USA, you will probably want to swap out anyway for a speedo that has the large mph markings on the dial.
Edit: It is possible to retrofit A/C from a junkyard vehicle. There are DIYs on this - check em out!

I thought on the ex model a/c was standard. I did a vin check and it was manufactured in Canada but my Speedo is in mph. Someone might have already switched me out. Looks like I might be doing it again.
Common error: Mfr'd in Canada =/= destined for the Canadian market. Just means it was built in Canada. Plug your VIN into a US Honda parts website and if it works, then it's a USDM car. If your VIN works when you plug it in to torontohondaparts.com, then you have a CDM car. Also - just check for a DRL resistor under the hood next to the brake and/or clutch cylinder ... that's a giveaway that it's a CDM car.
