Default Type R cams in GSR head

I have done some research and i still cannot find a straight answer...if somebody can clear this up for me i'd appreciate it.

Can i simply slap Type R cams into my completely stock GSR Head ready for my B20/Vtec? I'm asking because it will be Type R cams running on GSR valvetrain but also read that it may run lean? so a tune will be needed? not trying to rev past 8k anyways

thanks in advance

Mechanically they will work in the head. I have had type r cams in my gsr for about a year. They may hit the pistons in a b20vtec though. It will definitely need to be tuned.

You should also probably put dual valve springs on the exhaust side too since that side only has single valve springs.

you need ITR valve springs or aftermarket valve springs as well as a tune.

If you're staying below 8k you won't even need different valve springs.

I've never had or heard of any problems using R cams when keeping factory rev limiter. A couple close friends of mine ran R cams in there B16's for years revving to 8,400 or whatever and not one hiccup.

+1
Why put in type r cams and not have the benefit of the revs? Might as well leave the gsr'. Go big rev to the moon!

buy a set of new itr exhaust springs and swap your exhaust gsr springs into the intake(same as itr) then you will be able to rev it better, with out it you can do it but your will be more prone to float.

It's actually the other way around. Type R exhaust springs are the same as gsr intake springs. I you want to rev your B20vtec over 8200 rpm you move the GSR intake springs to the exhaust side and get type r intake springs.

My opinion is you shouldn't be revving the b20 bottom end any higher than 8200 anyway. Save your money on valve springs and spend it on something rod bolts or something.

As long as you keep the revs at 8K you can use the GSR or B16 valve springs if you want to rev to 9K and take full advantage of the Type R cams them you need to upgrade to ITR springs or better.
