Whats up guys need a little input here or actually real/accurate input.
I have a b16a2 with stock cams and just got some free b18c1 cams are these any better?
Also what cr is my motor?
b16a2 1999
Usdm itr pistons
B16a2 rods

im waiting on an accurate answer for this .. ive always been told that the b16a cams are a bit more aggressive than the b18c cams .. as most b16a items seem to be so as to make up for the small displacement .. but i would love to hear from some who has had experience with both cam setups to say which is really better
If it is na then don't go through the trouble putting in gsr cams. If it is a turbo motor the gsr have been proven to make more tq. over b16. Then it would be worth putting in the gsr.
b18c1
Int-230 dur. / 10.6mm lift
Exh-227 dur. / 9.4mm lift
b16a2
Int-240 dur. / 10.7mm lift
Exh-227 dur. / 9.4mm lift
Amazing how helpful google is....
And know idea why someone would put itr pistons in and lower the compression...
Stock b16a2 = 10.49:1
b16a2 w/ p73-ao pistons = 10.04:1

Oh yeah and your refeering to the p73-00 jdm itr piston netting 11.5:1 CR in a gsr. Still on topic with usdm itr piston. In a gsr those bring CR from 10.0:1 to 11.0:1
Do you want more or less duration? The B16 cams have higher duration and slightly higher lift, so will that benefit you more than less duration and .1mm less lift?

KNOWN: Im not gonna lie BUT i am clueless about duration and lift.
I just got free gsr cams so was wondering if itll benefit me in any way for now considering i will stay NA for quiet some time.

Ok, to keep it simple:
B16A cams move the power band higher by having more duration and higher lift.
So leave them alone, the motor makes power in the higher RPMs. The biggest gain you can do right now is to sell those itr pistons and get some b16 pistons.
Those numbers are JDM pistons and USDM pistons from the B16.
Why are you losing compression you might wonder? Rod length, piston height. The B18s have a taller deck height than the B16s. Those pistons end up sitting slightly lower in your block than the B18s. 134mm for the B16, 137.9mm for the B18C

Ok so if im not mistaken if i install the gsr cams i will lose High Rpm performance and gain middle to low end power?
Cause it rips pretty good after 4000 rpm all the way to 8500.
And as far as the pistons go i had the b16 pistons before and somehow feel better now?

Its not going to be that noticeable and you may even lose power overall. The GSR cams could potentially give you a different torque amount in the mid range sacrificing power.
That example is too vague, it could feel better because you put in new rings I hope giving you more compression. you could have lost compression with the oem units due to bad compression rings.
Do a proper valve adjustment, put the B16 pistons back in with new rings and you should see even better results.
JDM P73-00 pistons might have been what you meant to do? That would have put you in the mid 10.5 range which is higher than the P30s. The B16B would put you just under 12.
Are you positive you have USDM P73s?

Thanks for some Good info!
Yea they say p73ao on the domes!
Yes when i had the straight b16a2 the motor was smoking at higher rpms. so im agreeing that my rings were yielding less power.!!!
Oh well looks like i need to invest in a b20 v
