Default B16 or ls tranny

I am trying to decide on which tranny to use for my turbo setup. People have told me to use the LS for the longer gears. I still want it to accelerate decent to pass cars but also don't want it revving high while cruising on the highway. Any opinions

Most versatile trans IMO for turbo setups is the GSR hydro transmission with a good LSD. The gears are not too short yet not to long like an LS trans. If you need lower RPMs on the freeway you can add a set of LS 5th gears.

Gsr buddy. I've had a ls with my turbo setup and at about 400whp and the ls is just too long. I just put in a gsr trans and love it. B16 will imo be too short. Gsr is perfect.

GSR 1/2, B16 3/4, B16 5th. FD to match your tire size. I wouldn't do an LS 5th in anything that doesn't use an LS 4th. RPM drop (upshift) is crap as is the RPM jump (downshift) is crap.

You realize you basically named all b16 gears besides gsr 2nd (1.900)?
gsr, b16, ls share the same first gear...

B16 1/3/4/5 gsr 2

B16 1/3/4/5 gsr 2
I know.

The last part of your post is not possible. Though the ratio is the same for 1st, you can't use a B16 1st with anything other than a B16 2nd. So using a B16 1st with a GSR 2nd isn't possible. This is important for someone who is deciding what to do as it will require shimming the mainshaft (unless they already have a GSR trans and just swap the B16 3/4 into it).

How can we help you with this if you are only so generic as saying "turbo setup". How much power are you aiming for (realistically), and what do you plan to rev to (realistically)?

right now I have 400whp with a b16 tranny. I think 2 and 3 gear is to short for me. All I do is spin the tires. It will spin at a 60 roll in 3 gear. With a LSD

I dont plan on road racing. Leaning more towards top speed to hang with the V8 guys. And planning about 450 whp. Thats why I was thinking about a LS tranny. My motor is built good and balanced so my rev limit is set at 9500

Well, you're going to spin 2nd regardless of any Honda ratio unless you put one helluva tire on it. You can definitely reduce 3rds spinning at that power though. Off of the top of my head, I'd say use a full ratio GSR set with a 4.0 final drive. Hell, at 400 whp, a GSR trans with an LSD and average tires should hold 3rd OK.

I would keep the B16 3/4 and switch to the MFactory 4.05 FD and better tires.
