83 Acccord Keihin carburetor
So, I've got an 83 Accord with a 1.8L and it has the Keihin carb. I need to replace the floats and well I may do a full rebuilt on the carburetor but I dont know yet seeing as I have rebuilt a three barrel Japanese carb before. I just need some suggestions on how to remove the nuts off carburetor mounting studs. I've tried stubby wrenches and crows feet wrenches but there just isnt enough room to get leverage to remove them, and one nut looks like it has been partially rounded by the previous owner. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance
On my 83 Civic which pretty similar:
I removed as much as I could around the carb and used a 1/4" drive 12mm socket on it. This was on the rear nuts.
The front nuts I was able to use a normal wrench, turning the nut 1 flat at a time.
If the nut is rounded you may be able to use a needle nosed set of vice grips on them.
Once you get them broken loose you can spin them off by finger pressure. Once removed You may have to use a mechanic's magnet to pick up the nuts and washers from the carb base. They are tough to get out any other way.
Good luck and stay at it. it gets easier.

Will do, surprisingly everything else on this car seems to be decently engineered and relatively easy to get at.. except for the carburetor of course haha And unfortunately it has been raining the past few days so progress has been halted since I do not have a garage :/
I've seen some people talking about that, but I actually have no idea what work is included in that. I dont want to put too much work into it considering I only paid 150 for the car, and well it did run perfectly before the floats took a crap haha.

Keihin carbs are an EPA inspired nightmare and if you are just going to use the car as a "driver," the best option is the Weber conversion. It's a pretty straight forward procedure, the carb is simple and parts are readily available.
OTOH, you might have the skills to rebuild the original or know someone that can. Good luck!

Where do I find the Weber conversion thread?
For my 89 Acord,
I have been buying new $200 carbs off junkyard cars for $50
when I could find them, plastic bagging them and putting them on the shelf.
There are fewer 89's around anymore. I need to plan for the future.
Thanks.-Bob
