Getting a Del Sol for my daughter - anything I should look out for?
I have had a CRX for a long time and am aware of common issues with that car, but my daughter wants a Del Sol. Is there anything I should look out for other than the usual things in getting a Del Sol, like particular body issues etc.
Thanks

leaking weatherstripping and CLOGGED drain tubes (rear window).
If you hear water splashing when making turns, it's time to clean out the drain tubes. You will have to remove the rear plastic panels, remove metal plate cover....in order to access the tubes. They are on each side on the bottom.

supposedly...the 97 del sol does not have the annoying freaking rattle in between the targa top and the cross beam tower whatever-you-want-to-call-it (The rear portion that the roof latches to with the high-mount brake light). I have no way to prove this, this is only a rumor that I have heard.
Leaking roof/bad window seals...and then normal maintenance stuff

Leaking trunk seals, bad clutch, rust on fender areas especially the rears, rust on sides under the side skirts, rattling targa top, just to name a few.
Check the quarters and wheel wells for rust. Leaky targas can be fixed if they are small leaks, if it leaks bad though then you are probably best to replace the seals.
Del sol's are basically civics = reliable. Great fun little cars, handle great too.

mine loves to eat distributors, i went through 3 in 6 months, leaky targa seals are common and does anyone else have problems with the damn interior door handles? mine keep breaking where the lock rod attaches.
Leaky targa, holes cut in the rear window area, door handles that break, all of the above.
I thought I found a gem turned out to be a dud.
Ended up selling it.

Door handles are another common issue, as are the wrinkly door panels, holes in the seats, etc. Main relays and ignition switches are common on hondas, but the relays are easily fixable with a little skill and a soldering iron. Any seals on these cars are gonna be expensive.
