HEY WHATS UP GUYS I NEED HELP WITH MY EG HATCH...
I REMOVED THE THERMOSTAT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND I ALSO PUT A SECOND FAN ON THE RADITAOR...

WHEN I DRIVE AND I SLOW DOWN THE CAR STARTS HEATING UP AND WHEN I DRIVE FAST IT COMES BACK DOWN AND WHEN I STOP AGAIN IT STARTS GETTING HOT AGAIN ANY IDEAS ON WHAT IT MIGHT BE???

HELP NEEDED AND APPRECIATED THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

 

Im having the same problem with my 99 EK sedan ... running the same y7 motor ... im almost positive its your head gasket ... there may be a small leak in the head gasket ... check your oil cap and see if its ' milky ' ... if it is there is definitely water and oil mixing ... do the head gasket , water pump and timing belt all at once itll be a lot cheaper than doing each one individually ... also change your serpentine belt while youre at it ...

 

Remove the 2nd fan install a new thermostat

 

Maybe it's something simple as a coolant flush to fix.
Could be the radiator, hoses, fan, radiator cap, headgasket etc;
Is the oil cap milky? Are you still using the stock timing belt & water pump?

 

it could be as simple as that ... lol ... but im having the same problem ... ive change the thermostat twice ( once with an Autozone one and then with an original Honda oem thermostat ) changed the radiator ... changed the upper radiator hose since it blew after the radiator change ... if i start it up and dont move it ... it doesnt over heat ... once i start driving it starts over heating ... but if i floor it the needle drops fast ... and doesnt hold coolant in the radiator but the side reservoir has coolant ... my fan works dont know if its the relay to the fan ... and bubbles for when i pour antifreeze into the radiator so im assuming the water pump works ...

 

open your radiator cap at a cold start, watch the water when you start your engine when water shoots up then you have a leaking head gasket, common problems on a sohc engine

 

well i have a problem with my 98 Y8 just installed a new headgasket in it!, no milky mix, still trys to overheat but i didn't change or check if the water pump was good, or thermostat, didn't bleed the cooling system i'm guessing i need to do all that right lol!!. it does try to overheat while sitting.

 

Follow this check list

1) Check if the system is full - If not full, fill it and bleed it
2) Check for external leaks...hoses and if the water pump is/has failed you will notice it leaking
3) Check to see if the fan is working - If the fan is not working, your car will overheat while the car is idling
4) Replace the Thermostat - They're $7-9 bucks and get stuck all the time. They open partially which will make the car overheat while driving. Worst case, if it doesn't fix the car you lost $7 bucks and about 30 minutes of your time.

If you do these four things and your car is still overheating then move to step 5

5) If you see white smoke coming from your tailpipe or notice a loss of coolant and there are no visble leaks, you have either blown a head gasket, have a crack in the cylinder head or a crack in a sleeve - in any one of these instances you will need to remove the head, check the headgasket - if there is no sign of failure, check the cylinder bores for cracks - if there is no sign of failure there, you will need to have the cylinder head checked for cracks and warpage.

 

having the same problem with my ef, i have a sohc zc, ive changed the water pump, radiator, upper and lower hose. installed several different thermostats and bled the system many times. without a thermostat the motor will never reach 150 degrees even on a hot mojave summer day. but its getting colder now so i thought id install a thermostat to get some heater action, but just like before the thermostat never opens, i have an aftermarket temp gauge and even at 225 the lower hose never gets hot. (thermostats not opening) heater works awesome but id rather not run the engine this hot. even with the fan on cruising down the road the temp gets dangerously close to 230 degrees. compression is good on all cylinders and theres no oil in the water. im an experienced mechanic and ive never seen this issue on any make of vehicle. any suggestions will be taken seriously, thank you
