i have a 01 civic ex automatic. the gauge cluster only works when it wants to. i have not noticed it linked to heat because i read that can be an issue with the tach but even when nice out and the car is hot sometimes it wont work. i read it could be the mcu inside of the under dash fuse box so i replaced it (used part from ebay with good rating) and no change. then i read to check the cluster doing that test with the car off, holding the button on the cluster, turn the key on, lights one,off,on, off and then push the cluster button 4 times and the cluster responded with all the gauges sweeping and the 888888 and i was told that means its fine. what do i check next? i do have an after market cd player and wiggled all the wires but no change either, what next? any help is great. also my sun roof quit working but im not sure if that is related at all, heard it could be if it was the mcu...

 

I had this issue once upon a time and it was the acutal board on the cluster that went bad. You should replace the cluster with a new one and you should be good to go

 

i replaced the cluster and it fixed the problem in case any one ever needs the info. i went ahead a switched to a 03-05 cluster while at it and it looks sweet and easy to switch over.
