Default Throw out bearing noise?

My brother's DC makes kind of a 'cricket' sounding noise while in neutral, and obviously after doing research found that if it makes the noise while the clutch pedal is up, and goes away with the clutch pedal floored...then it's the Input Shaft Bearing. This is true, however, the noise goes away even with the slightest feathering of the clutch pedal. I was under the impression that you had to fulling disengage by flooring the clutch pedal, at least halfway for the noise to stop if it was indeed the ISB??

What's also odd is that when driving in gear the noise is present and if you feather or barely touch the clutch while driving, the noise goes away. Is this normal for an Input Shaft noise issue? Or could this be related to the Throwout Bearing instead? Opinions and experiences definitely appreciated, before I start tearing off the tranny and clutch.

Thanks in advance guys.

Throw-out bearing/clutch arm. Had the same issue before. Sprayed some motorcycle chain lube that foams and sticks in through the hole in the front of the trans for the clutch arm/slave cylinder and the squeak went away. Just spray some wd-40 or some lube in and around to see if the noise goes away. It's a temp fix so you'll need to reapply every so often.

Or you could do the smart thing a replace it, some vehicles you can buy the throw out bearing by its self. If the throw out is worn maybe the pilot is as well.

Meh, ordinarily I'd agree with you, but mine started squeaking a few months after replacing the clutch. No reason for it to but it did. It, as well as the pilot bearing were new oem honda parts. I'm too lazy to pull the trans to replace the damn thing so every once in a blue moon I shoot a little bit of lube towards it and problem solved. It shuts up like giving a pacifier to a baby.

On our cars, tb's should last about 50k miles if you really abuse them so I'm not real worried about it. If it had 40k, 50k, or 60k on it I'd be more inclined to drop the trans and replace it. By abuse I mean hold the clutch in for extended periods, for example at a stop light for 20 secs, slipping the clutch, ect. Any thing that puts excessive heat to it.

Haha, ya installation error will cook one in a hurry...learned that lesson the hard way the first time I did a clutch job. For the most part, we've all done it once.

No not spray.

I would buy a grease gun & good grease. Feed the hose in on the backside of the throwout fork (pass side). You will feel it hit the shaft, then give it a few pumps. Spraying lube all over the place could end up in the clutch. Lube will only stop the problem for a little while anyway.
