Default d15b vtec e rev limiter at 5k.

my 95 lx sedan has a d15b vtec e with a chipped p28
will not rev past 5000. just sputters and pops very similar to 2 step launch control.
this happens when im driving or sitting still, my spedometor works, car burns oil.

thank you so much for taking the time to read my post i hope honda tech can help!

You need to run the correct ECU for the motor. Your motor is cutting out because at 5k, the second vtec solenoid is supposed to open, but even a chipped P28 can't do that.

single vtec selenoid. its not 3 stage it is vtec e. 12 valve first stage standard 16v second stage. no cels. bulb is good. comes on for duration of fuel pump when i turn key.
does anyone know if z6 and vtec e? (z1/d15b) vtec selenoids are the same? i have a z6 head with a vtec selenoid

Why can't you run the right ecu?

i have a jdm d15b vtec with a p28, it might be a faulty ecu, try another p28 but if its the same just go get it tuned.

if it is a jdm d15b yes, the z6 is the closest thing to it. almost all pieces are interchangable

I have something similar going on, but no resolution. Bogs terribly after 4500-5k. How about if you ease into the throttle. Will the motor then rev past 5k?

In some parts a P08 isn't very easy to find. My D15b is controlled by a P28 just fine.

Obd1 converted car? Wiring? Did you mention a CEL? Your problem should throw a code.
