Default High Comp Build on B17

Well I've decided to give my DD a lot more juice. Brian Crower stage 3 cams are on my mind, but not sure on which pistons to invest in. Could I do an ITR piston & rod setup and call it a day? Other than obvious head work and tunning, what else to a B17 block would you recommend I look into or keep an eye out for?

B17 rods are specific to the b17(shorter then b16's)

I've decided to bore and hone the block to 82mm and drop in RS Machine CTR pistons. Not sure on what bearing to consider. The Stealership wants over $500 for OEM, ACL I think might be a bit excessive, but considerably cheaper. Does anyone use King bearings?

you're going to spend a lot of money to go moderately faster and make a little more power

B16B gets you 12.5:1 compression, and B18C5 (JDM) gets you 11:1 compression. Choose based on your available gas, and your ECU. I like staying OEM whenever possible for a street car, and you said your car is a DD.

RDX fuel injectors.

I would WPC treat the reciprocating parts, and Swain Tech the piston tops and combustion chambers.

Good choice on the pistons.

You can go to:
http://www.zealautowerks.com/bseries.html
So, you can get an idea of what kind of C/R you'll be running.

However, I would have a reputable shop assemble the block for you. Bearings come in a lot of different sizes and most likely will have the right equipment to measure your clearances properly.

If I'm wrong and you do assemble motors, then go to:

http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...p/mws/home.jsp

and look under "crankshaft and pistons"

Main bearings 10.61 x 8
Rod bearings 10.25 x 4

Hope this helps some, and make a build thread already ^_^

No sir, compared to my stock motor setup right now this will go a lot faster and I will be making a lot more power than what it's at right now. And of course I'm going to be spending more money... it's a car... not a stamp collection.

What Dood probably meant by that comment is when all is said and done, if you went with say a gsr swap or an lsvtec...you would have spent the same amount of money and it would be towards a slower/lower displacement B17.

BTW I have done the exact same thing with the B17 crank rod combo with CTR pistons...its a peppy fun build but not worth it in comparison to a 1.8-2.0 build that could cost the same or less.

If my tune is done right, I plan on making anywhere from 200-220whp. The head will have a mild port an polish, the throttle body will be port matched to 70mm and the plenum will get a port and polish too just a fyi for everyone too.

Truth! But rarity and bragging rights on an all motor B17 makes smile from ear to ear. And really, 200+ whp for that car is fine with me.

Crank and rods are on the "checklist" to be shotpeend and for fuel injectors, the stock ITR 240cc ones will be maxed out more than likely so either 310/370 will be enough. And sorry why RDX? RC and Precision also make good quality injectors, no?

have you checked the dyno section to see what you need to do for 220WHP?
most of those are 1.8-2.0L engines fyi.

look at 200WHP b16. thats closer to what you need to do for yours.

i also was hoping for 220 lol but in the back of my head i knew it was gonna be closer to 200 and thats where it it. dont lie to yourself.

5000 for mine when all labor done myself.

you could just order a jdm ITR motor and tune it. what i should have done

And it is. There's no denying the fact that I'm going to be spending a lot however I've had this car for 10 years and I plan on keeping it for another 10+ years as well as keeping it within the family so I can pass it on to any future kids I have later on in my life.

cough* the passing to kids usually turns into a disaster
look dad i can go 200 miles at 9500RPM yeeey oh SNAP. park/rebuild
unless you get your kid to help you work on it so he knows how much work it takes to build an engine.

were not so different you and i.
im stuck on getting a b18c5 block even though i could just get a GSR block and resleeve it. but i want a specific b18c5 stamp not even b18c... go figure.

but also be ready for a disappointment.

alot of the hondas are built over 200 its not that hard to build a 230whp beast now. so when you spent a good chunk of cash and you still gettine beat buy same people its disappointing lol
because whether you like to admit it or not. you built it not to race against time in the back roads but to pull on those other "punks" in hatches etc. except alot of those punks in hatches got b20vtecs ...u know what i mean?

Oh yeah I went over that option too in ordering an ITR but at the time I only had $2000 so I was short on money by a lot. My friend knew somebody with a complete 93 GSR just sitting in his yard for 6mnths and had no idea what to do with it since it was written off by ICBC here in BC, Canada. He wanted $1000 for the whole car and I jumped on that deal. I had an entire parts car for my 92 RS. Full interior, and a running GSR motor with 263,000+ km's on it. I couldn't pass up on it knowing how super rare this car was. Only 500 or so were ever made in Canada. And maybe I'll just make 200whp, and maybe I won't? You're right that I shouldn't lie to myself about those numbers but from speaking with several tuning shops and engine building shops those numbers MIGHT be very well attainable. I've wasted a lot of money on things that never stuck around. In the end and in my mind it's how fun this car and this experience will be. I truthfully don't know anybody who is building or has built a B17 where I live so to me I feel like it's not just another Civic or Integra owner with another 1.8L or boosted D series. I hope to stand out in the crowd.

Haha, I like you raverx3m. My father passed on the old '79 528i BMW to me and told me, "This is a car, and not a toy model. If it breaks, glue will not fix it. Time and money will. Take care of the car and it will give you a lot of freedom and take you places were experiences and truths will lay out in front of you." I was signed up for a lot of driving courses including a specific high speed hazardous driving course through BMW back in the when I was 17/18 yrs old (now 29). You're probably yawning and wondering where I'm going with on this story. I plan on giving my kid(s) the proper driving courses and instructions like I went through so that we can avoid any foolish behavior. And he'll (or she) start out on a shitty and slow moving Honda and work their way up, after some years of driving, to knowing what 200hp feels like compared to 120hp, although regardless if you have 1000hp or 100hp, 100kms is a 100kms, and that in windy or wet conditions is all the same.
