Here are our 2 angles of Paul Major's crash at the Shakedown Nationals from friday night.
LINK FOR VIDEO BELOW
HERE is a quote from Paul last night after the crash....
Ok hear is what happen for all my fellow racers and the haters.
This is a totaly new set up. The engine has a new manifold and the 550 injectors are a little sloppy in the rails everyone that runs them knows they are slightly shorter the every other injector. Well the injector o-ring pushed out spraying fuel all over the place. I shut it down instantly and coasted. I attempted to pull to the side and tapped the brake spinning the car into the wall. the damage from the fire is worse then the damage from the impact. The car went thru the 1/8 at only 99mph coasting thru the 1/4 where it happen maybe I was going 40-50 mph. It sucks the whole team worked their asses off to make this race, It is a real bummer to all of us but we wil be back real soon.
Looking forward to some testing down south, New records are coming, BTW the 60 was 1.16 on a real soft tune.
Huge thank you to my whole team. DMC, J&E, Pro Toque, Prolite, Fire Core, Mickey Thompson, Pro Efi and Job Spetter couldn't do it with out you guys.

wow thats crazy. how it just spun out like that and caught fire so quickly. Thats 2 major cars having issues with fuel related items.
Sucks to see, but my question is why did the 2 people first to the crash not help him get out of the car?
^I'd imagine they knew that an explosion could happen at any time. Without a fire extinguisher in hand that was probably a smart move not diving into the car to pull him out. I imagine that would be a really tough call to make though if you were standing outside of it.
WOW, that sucks to see.
Why does it always seem like it takes forever for the track crews to get to a car on fire.

wow, wasn't the car just redone at DMC? that suck's!

Yea, there was a big thread on YB.
Also a couple days ago @ MIR Keith Berry's vette did an instant cut left (broken axle maybe?) and got into the wall. That car was another amazingly nice vette that just got finished.
Some bad luck is in full force and it sucks to see these accidents.

The car was just redone with a new turbo setup where the turbos were moved to the front of the car and there was a new engine installed as well.
This car has been through the ringer, thats for sure!!! not it's first crash.

Yeah I agree the guy walking back and fourth calmly is alarming. The track should really do something about that. I would really think twice before racing at that track.
I have to agree with how bad Etown handled this, from watching the video. Glad to see Paul is ok.
The announcer had now idea what was going for a while. May be he can't see that far down the track from the tower.
May be I'm just jaded because of what happened yesterday,
After sitting there in the stands Saturday for over 5 hours with no cars racing while they tried to get the clocks working for a major event. I'm not at all impressed with the Track.

wow! i would be pretty freaking pissed off at the track crew! That was completely ridiculous and pathetic how long it even took them to get to the car! Not to mention how completely unprepared they were for what was going on! Glad he was ok and unharmed once his crew helped him!
from experience it is hard to do when you see a driver still in a car but you have no extinguisher or protective equipment. you want to help but your natural instincts keep you from jumping in there. gotta respect guys who can just run toward what most people get away from.

it wasnt hard for his crew to jump in there and get him out after riding the quad all the way from the starting line to get down there
something needs to be done about etowns emergency response procedures and planning after seeing that video.
im not sticking up for major, not to many people like him anyhow, but nobody deserves to sit in a firey wreck and have to wait for their own crew to ride a quad all the way from the starting line to get there and pull them out of a burning wreck
I never understood why some tracks don't have quads or trucks at the beginning and end of the track with fire extinguishers? If it's serious enough you driving all the way down the track in a quad isn't exactly quick and might end someones life... All for what too save 7-8k for 2 used quads pretty cheap of them.
Best of luck to you guys on the rebuild, I know what it is like to watch all of you hard work burn in front of you. Keep your head up!
From Paul Major himself......
Now what has made everyone upset about after I posted the video was the response time. From the time he hit the wall to the time a suppressant was put onto the car. The other complaint was the inexperienced rescue worker. Some made claims they were EMT's and had no fire rescue experience. Well in my humble opinion, it doesnt matter whether you are fire rescue, emt, water box sprayer, line starter or any other position on the track. When a car wrecks or nitrous backfire or leaks on the line, FIRST thing that should be done is hitting the kill switch. Which is what neither of them did and thats what blows my mind. I understand people saying they werent prepared to deal with the fire. We see that. But nothing was stopping them from hitting the kill switch or at least opening the passenger door. Which are the two things his crew instantly did when they arrived down track. Im sure E-Town is dealing with the situation because it was the buzz among the pits all weekend. Hopefully noy just E-Town but ALL tracks can learn from it.

As said above raceway park's emergency/security/tech staff are literally a joke, not to take anything away from guys like Roger who actually come out and does exactly what he's supposed to do but, its no different then what happened to CLM Ricky last week, his civic burned almost to the floor before his car was extinguished on the return road. I almost found myself in the middle of a fist fight at the last event because of some ******** running brackets kept blocking our pit space in the back after we told them they couldn't park there and had to move, we asked the "ogs" staff for the event numerous times for help of which fell on deaf ears and the problem unfortunately didn't get resolved until it almost came down to a punch out and they moved but this issue happens pretty much at every event and its the same routine. Disorganization is across the board there, I don't know if anyone else has noticed lately but nowadays, anyone can pull up with any cut up POS no cage super unsafe car and go faster then 11.49 all day long and nobody says a word to them. When the first person in one of those cars crashes and it crumples like a tin can I wonder then what measures staff will take towards that.
Sucks. I was really hoping to see this car again at WCF. Glad he is safe and hopefully he will be back on a track soon.
