When I brake over bumpy surfaces the car begins to shudder very violently, almost like the car is falling apart and I feel the vibration in the brake pedal.

Car is a 04 TL 6MT.

Tech have looked at the car and said suspension, and brakes are good. Just had new lower ball joints put in.

Okay...does it shudder on flat surfaces? Having vibration over bumps is exactly abnormal....

 

It does not shudder braking over flat surfaces only bumpy roads. I do hear noises backing up like a click of some sort sometimes. The driver side front is suspect.
This is not plain vibration, it really is like the car is falling apart.

 

Sounds like the ABS kicking in on the bumpy surface.

 

My 08 Tsx did something very similar to this. After I changed my brakes (rotors/pads) it has not happened at all.

 

Some people on that bmw forum did speculate that, darndest thing is, according to the previous owners maintenance records, he had a new ABS sensor put in just a yr ago.

 

I wouldn't worry about it. My 99 does the same thing. The ABS is kicking in. Because of the bumps (and it does it alot when turning and its bumpy), the ABS is reading the knotches at different rates so it interprets it as a skid. Mine has been doing if since I got it and I have replaced almost all of the steering parts.
