Default 96 B18b1 swap looking for a little more power...

I swapped in a 96 Ls and i love it. More power and more torque is awesome. I am looking to get a little more power without a turbo...yet and I don't want to break the bank. What cams could I swap out for more performance? Anything basic that wouldnt need to cost a ton? Thanks!

What mods do you have already? What transmission?

Crower makes good cams, look into the 402s or 403s depending on your budget. I've ran the 402s and I liked them, they allow the use of stock valvetrain, which is good if you have a tight budget. But If you can afford it go with the 403s and supporting valvetrain.

I had a low comp B20 with 402 cams, Blox Intake manifold, 68mm TB, and a type R knock header and it pulled great and surprised a few people.

I have only a few minor mods. Short ram intake, custom 2.25" exhaust with high flow cat and skunk 2 muffler and dc header. CC clutch and the stock tranmission. Nothing else except some Password:JDM products to make it look better. I have had my eye on Skunk2 cams. How are they?

My pull is pretty good, but I love that gut jerking acceleration when people say "Holy ****! This is a Honda??" lol

Cams won't give you that gut jerking acceleration. Imho, you'd be wasting your money. Have you considered nitrous?

Edit: Or a VTEC head swap?

I was thinking of a v-tec head swap, but Ive already bought the phearable.net non-vtec ecu and rywire v-tec-less harness conversions. Im not sure its worth replacing all of that. I would love a turbo or supercharger though...

It's easy to add the wires for vtec. Just read up on it a bit and you'll see. But none of that matters if you're strongly considering boost, then just turbo the B18B1. You won't need a vtec head or cams then. Matter of fact, if your motor is healthy, you can safely boost it to a maximum of 350whp with a proper tune on stock internals.

ummm horse power sells parts, torque wins races....and without application to the street none of you mods mean jack and you're pissing money on parts.

get a lighten flywheel, phantom grip, or something like that and you'll actually keep that hp/tq you have and apply it.

Get a light flywheel and a gsr/b16 trans. LSD if possible. that will make a bigger difference than cams.

Wow that's a good amount of hp. The motor is in good health. New timing belt, thermostat, water pump, spark plugs and wires recently. It runs like a champ.

Anyone know of a good turbo setup that will fit an EF? I've heard that Ebay kits are both worthless and great.

I think a b16 tranny is too short for me. I love my 2nd and 3rd ls gears.
