Default What to do with this b17

Hello i have a virgin db2 i am messing with and i would like to keep the factory numbers matching b17 in it as it runs really well. What are some good cams for a stock block b17? valve train will be addressed with something like supertech. Its got the old b16 intake manifold which manifold should i go with? Just looking for suggestions for this weird motor. cams/manifold/header.

I would start off with bolt ons, bpi velocity stack intake, Skunk2 pro intake manifold, Logic High end header, you can find some used tuner 1's online for around $400 shipped. You could also upgraded the clutch to some type of stage 1(Competition,Clutchmasters,Exedy,Act, etc..) accompanied by a lighter flywheel you'll really notice a difference by then.

I had "ITR" cams in mine that turned out to be 96+ GSR cams.

Those cams, along with a JG Edelbrock Pro Flo 2 piece header, 2.5" Carsound cat, Greddy SP2 exhaust, and a tune netted me 150 WHP and 113 WTQ on a local Dynojet 224x that is known to read lower than others in the area.

Not a powerhouse, but certainly a fun setup.

I would be leary of stepping up too much as far as camshafts go because the stock 9.7:1 static compression ratio is actually a bit low for a DOHC B series VTAK engine to begin with.

Rebuild with some PR3 pistons and throw in some S2S1 cams, maybe a Performer X manifold and a Toda header, too. Should make respectable numbers and be a fun build.

You could put together a decent build with OEM parts.

1. You need to increase compression on that motor. JDM P30s I believe would put you somewhere around 11:1 compression.

2. CTR intake cam, ITR exhaust cam.

3. The real power with mods #1 and #2 are in TUNING. Cam gears, ECU.

Stick with the stock IM until you're making serious power.

Thanks for all the help guys, i mean stock block as in not touching internals. Just stuff on the top end to help this little pig out. Sucks that the compression is so low a simple stage 1 cam might not help to much. If i were to throw some pistons in something it wouldnt be the 1.7 id just like to keep that short block stock as it burns nothing or needs nothing. Just tq lol

Is the b17 intake manifold similar to the b16 P30 manifold? If so no need to change that.

If I had to choose mods

BuddyClub 3+ cams
Supertech valve springs
Toda (reproduction) header
Decent 3" intake
Tune

Next step would be to increase compression
Depending on budget/condition I engine I would approach this differently.

Budget : Mill the head ~0.040" or so

If the engine needs or could use a rebuild and your dead set on keeping the B17 I would look for some P30 pistons. But a B20 with some RSMachines pistons would be the wise choice.

Keep in mind the BC3 cam is a stage 1 cam but will give you the added TQ you are looking for.
