Whats the best ECU to tune ?
So I have my daily eg B16A was wondering whats the best ecu to tune just use my stock one or buy a hondata s200 or s300 ? . Its my daily I just want a little more power out of it and yes its completely stock accept for a Yowaii intake and dc headers and NSX style loss motion assemblys . Thanks for the help everyone
Not really. Any ECU that can be chipped is satisfactory. The fallacy that the P28 is the "best" is just that, a fallacy. Once the basemap is on it one ECU is no better than another.

??? You still have to find a chippable ECU to install the Hondata system INTO. Any ECU that you can chip can run Hondata. There is not "best".
From a Google search.
Most OBD1 Civic / Integra ECU's are chippable due to the fact that they use similar ECU boards. The following ECU's are all compatible with popular tuning software like Crome, Neptune, and Hondata:
USDM OBD1 ECU's:
* P05 92-95 Civic CX
* P06 92-95 Civic DX/LX
* P28 92-95 Civic EX/Si
* P30 93-95 Del Sol VTEC DOHC
* PR4 92-93 Integra LS/RS/GS
* P75 94-95 Integra LS
* P61 92-93 Integra GSR
* P72 94-95 Integra GSR
JDM OBD1 ECU's:
* P08
* PR3 (OBD1 VARIANT ONLY)
* P30
* P72

Your initial question was what the best ECU to tune is. The guy who came off as a douchebag (grumblemarc) actually gave you the best response. It doesn't matter what ECU you use to tune so long as it's chippable. In the last post made by grumblemarc, he gave you a list of ECUs that will work. Neither one of the ECUs is better than the next to tune because once you put that magical chip inside, they all become exactly the same.
So, now that the ECU question has been resolved, we move to the tuning software.
I don't think you fully understand how ECU tuning works. From your first post asking whether or not you should use your stock ECU or a Hondata, it sounds like you think the two are different. Hondata is a chip added on to factory Honda ECUs. The ECUs that you can add it onto are in the list posted by grumblemarc. If you have one of those ECUs, you can add Hondata onto it and tune from there.
There are other types of software referred to as "standalone" which completely replace your ECU with a different unit.
Tuning software is much like coke and pepsi, some like one while others like the other. Asking which tuning software is best is like asking a bunch of people if they like coke or pepsi better, so your responses will vary greatly.
Since it sounds like your car is pretty much stock with a few insignificant modifications, I would just leave this whole ECU tuning idea off the table until you get more involved in the hobby and start modifying the car enough that you actually need tuning.
Actually since I'm in here anyway redirected from gdd to see grumble smash on noobs.( wich didn't happen)
The p72 and the pr3 has a knock sensor circuit so I would say those are best just based off that. But! If you aren't running a knock sensor then it doesn't matter wich ecu.

Thank you gentlemen for breaking down the whole ecu thing . I now have a better understanding of how it works and what to do my question is answered thanks HT family .
