screw in egr vacuum hose
Hey all,
On my recently bought my 94 accord and noticed that the check engine light was coming on and off. The code was for the egr sensor. I went to clean it and noticed that the vacuum hose coming out of the egr valve was off, and it had a screw in that end of it. Someone must have put the screw in it. So I preceded to take the screw out and put the hose back on the valve to see what would happen. This was yesterday. Since I did that, the CEL has not come back on, however, the car was spuddering, especially at low rpms. It just didn't drive nearly as smooth as it did with the screw in the hose. So my question is, what issue would blocking off that hose solve? What would cause the spuddering with the hose reattached? Could this just be a simple vacuum hose leak? Again, no CEL with hose attached.
Thanks a lot.

After doing a little more research, it's probably that someone just wanted to disable the valve. I still welcome any ideas. I either need to get it to stop spuddering with the hose attached, or get the CEL off with the screw in. I think I can put a blocking plate under the valve to turn of CEL. Ok, so I'm basically answering my own question. I still am curious as to why it would spudder with the hose on, but no CEL. Maybe the valve just needs to be cleaned and the sensor isn't registering?
the sputtering is due to the egr working again, but the ports in the manifold are so clogged that all the exhaust is being dumped in one cylinder and causing a poor ignition condition.
the block off plate may or more not work as far as the cel, but it will defiitely stop the sputtering....but the best thing would be clean the ports and get the system working right since it is good for fuel economy, and good for emissions.

Cool, thanks a lot. I will clean out those ports and get it working properly. I tried the plate, and at first, the cel light was staying off. However, it has popped on intermittenly once again, not as much, but on none the less.
