Default Trunk security for 94-97 Accords

I have a 94 Accord, and I going to be putting a business name on my car. It might let people know that I sometimes have stuff in my trunk.

I plan on disconnecting the remote trunk release cable from the trunk so that it can only be opened with the key. I have a decent paging alarm with door sensors, glass breakage sensor, circuit monitoring sensor, tilt sensor, hood sensor and trunk sensor.

How safe is the trunk from people breaking in? Can they easily pry it open from either the trunk or from the back seat? I know it has that lock on the fold down back seat. How safe is this lock? Can I somehow disable the lock from working, but leave the pull string inside the trunk, in case I want to fold down the seats?

Locks only keep honest people honest. If someone really wants to get in, they will. Sorry, maybe you could get a tank? jk. Good luck man

You could install an actuator as a sort of deadbolt. They do it with hot rods, because the cars never had factory locks.

While I've never tried this on a 1994 Accord, I'm thinking it would be a pretty easy matter to slide-hammer the lock cylinder out of the trunk and then use a screw driver to actuate the mechanism. Probably take a good thief all of ten seconds to open your trunk.

How often are trunks broken into versus smashing the window? Have you guys heard of trunks being broken into?

I used to live in Manhattan; had my trunk lock pulled three times in two years.

When you say trunk lock, do you mean the lever inside your car to remotely open your trunk, or do you mean they opened the outside lock somehow?

Yes, opened from the outside. The thief will screw a slide hammer (a tool used in body shops for pulling dents out of sheet metal prior to a Bondo treatment) into the lock cylinder on the trunk lid; one slide of the hammer and the lock cylinder is forcibly yanked out of the trunk lid. All the thief needs to do at that point is to insert a screw driver to unlock the trunk.

Can they use this for any lock on the car? To get in the doors? Is the lock on the trunk weaker than the door locks?

For a 1994 Accord, I'm about 99.9% certain that both the doors and the trunk can have the lock cylinders pulled with ease.

As someone alluded to above, locks only keep honest folks out of your car.
