Default My $100 Teal ED7. Pics/How-To's/Deadlines

Deadline October 23rd from sitting to on the road.

Ok so I had an ad up on a local classified (kijiji.ca) for a project car. With helping a friend tear down his ED7 I felt really sad I couldn't drive it and experience owning (for my imagination) an EF. The feelings grew into curiosity and than I started trolling the EF section.

The feelings grew even further once I had seen Teal ED7's and JDM/EDM sir's (that dark green with the red strip...Drooool!). So I had to have one.

Going forward a week I receive an email from a guy selling an Auto SI in red with a Teal donor car. Both cars we're complete, although the teal ed7's engine camshaft went. Having to figure out a home for a D16z6. I thought this works perfectly.

Arrived at guys house and he had a Car Hoarder theme park. Dude had a 4x4 Ranger jacked, a 75 Vette, 2 Camaro's 2 5.0 stangs (one was a cobra edition) and a Bose 302 Stang (sounded like the devil). In any case I began to build rapport (soften him uP) and after 30 minutes of being there I made a deal for this car for $100.

The Pro's

-USDM Bumper with OEM fogs
-Car is complete
-Seems to be no sunroof leaks!
-Got to have a Perfect condition drivers seat from the red Si. (I really dislike the oem seats in my Del Sol. Enjoy the plush-style ones in my FG2)

The Con's
-So far I spotted two dime sized holes in the trunk well.
-Rust in rockers, but no holes
-Quarter panels have bubbling and drivers has a dime sized hole.
-Sat for awhile on a trailer, so there is some mold in the interior but as we speak most of it is out.

Was alittle late in posting the pics and vids so I'll have it done tomorrow.

I noticed ALOT of the How-To's in this section are either out of date/closed; not allowing relevant discussion/deleted or moved pics. I intend to be as thorough as I can be in getting this on the road within the next 5 days as well as future mods I want to do in the future. Specifically entering this into the local Autocross with the soon-to-be N/A D16Z6 build. To a Turbo build...we'll see.

Deadline tasks for October 23rd 2012
-Engine Swap
-Fix rear seized brakes/hubs
-Insure
-Register and receive temporary
-Certify

So much positivity! Thanks guys

Here's some pics of when I brought her home.

I don't know how long its been sitting. However long it was, it accumulated ALOT of mold in the fabric and carpet, not to mention on the exterior pieces and trims.

I tend to stay away from chemicals as much as possible. Upon web searching I came across a guide that suggested using Pure White Vinegar. Here's my process

------------------------------------------
My process in cleaning mold off Interior

1. 5 Parts Vinegar 1 Part Filtered Water mix into spray bottle.
2. Sprayed fabric and let sit for an hour
3. Wiped down with a clean rag and hot water
4. Used a plastic bristled brush and massaged fabric
5. Sprayed once more.
6. Waited 30 minutes and applied a *mixed homemade cleaning solution
7. Wiped down with clean rag

*(5 parts water 1 part Grapefruit [Lime works also], and just brushed my finger over the Antibacterial Lysol dishing washing soap and let the water pick up the suds off my finger)
-------------------------------------------

Fabric still smells like vinegar but I'm going to pick up this anti-bacterial lysol air freshener tomorrow to clear it up.

Other than that I did a good wipe down on the exterior. Washed the body with soap and water. The rust spots I went over with transmission oil using a clean rag.If you're thinking "Wtf is a leaf blower doing there?", the car seemed to have been a critter hostel. Engine bay was full of leaves, twigs, and peanut shells.

Currently the rear brakes are seized and I'm going to do a rear disk swap. After watching video's on replacing parts on a hub system; specifically brakes, I decided I want to make this car not only a pleasure to drive and own, but also maintain. So I'm going to search for some Monday.

I have an update on somethings I need to do/fix! lol...

1.Find a hood latch
2.Find a trunk latch
3.Find or Fix current Front seat rails
4.Fix Door latches
5.Rear disk swap
6.Have someone remove my free D16a6 engine/tranny
7.Search how to swap a D16z6 (Several people have done a mini-me swap, however no one here has done a d16z6 swap. Due to the differences in mounts, need to come up with a strategy)
8.Fix rust.

Tomorrow I'll be working on a renovation so the updates will resume Monday evening.

Thanks for viewing. Comments/Suggestions/Criticism are welcome.

Thanks bro. I saw your EF Family squad lol. Looks sick. IF I had the place I'd do the same. I honestly wanted to pick up a Wagovan/Wagon/Shuttle but there are as rare as F$@% here. The one I did find wasn't AWD and an auto.

Argh...2nd time writing this now...

Current Interior status

So the chemical free method worked pretty well, however there is alot of caked in rust on the carpet from the seat rails. I'll be experimenting with CLR sometime today.

Current Rust Repair

I used Por's Marine Clean solution to remove all the excess dust, grease and dirt from the sanding. The solution works really well.

I then used Por's Prep n Ready and this solution works great also, however I noticed there is a certain direction thati s not labeled.

When applying Prep n Ready I got better adhesion with POR waiting an hour after I applied Prep n Ready (As seen on the hood). When I applied POR-15 immediately after Prep n Ready I got alot of runs(As seen on quarter Panels).

I'm not concerned as I have to apply a second coat and I'm already in this knowing I need to do ALOT of sanding.

Found out how bad my trunk was.

Those dime sized holes ended up be 3 inches in diameter once I started pounding and carving on it. I'm contemplating on either just welding in new metal for those holes and POR-15 everything or cut the entire trunk out. Suggestions?

I've been really busy and I need to get those pieces off the original seller before he scraps it. He's willing to take my Hockey/Baseball cards on trade lol...

Once I have this process done I'll give better explanations and directions.

Year is 1991.

Yea I was shocked when I saw the OEM Fogs. Only actually noticed the fogs when car was dropped off lol.

I would cut out everything that was rusted in the truck and weld back a new piece (or off a donor car)
