Icon2 1993 Civic DX clutch or transmission problems.

When I get up to 4000rpm and I push in the clutch pedal,
there's a quick rattling sound sounds like something is kind of loose.

It's like a loose fan belt noise, but metallic and only when I go to shift.

I'm not a mechanic, but I think that would be my clutch plates wobbling when I engage them -- I'm also sorry if that sounds stupid, like I don't know what I'm talking about.

Possible problems?

Also, is it specifically hard to change out the clutch myself?

Do you know how many miles are on the clutch? It's kinda hard to say what it could be. So it only happens over 4k and when you push the clutch in? But possible problems I guess could be, clutch going back, pressure plate issues, throw out bearing, Input shaft bearing.

In my opinion I don't think putting a clutch in is all that hard to do, but I think it just depends on your mechanical ability. I've done it several times and you learn little tricks the more you do things like that.

Sounds like a pilot bearing noise to me...

I don't think it's that hard (I did my entire auto/manual swap myself with zero prior car knowledge, using hand tools, and lots of internet research and PB Blaster .

Most frustrating part was lining up the transmission housing to the engine.

These are the absolute best resources I found for clutch replacement. I don't think I could have done the job without these two links.

1 - http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/do...l-58-pics.html

and this video. This is the only resource outside of the service manuals (that I could find online) which really go into deals on what to lubricate and how to align the clutch disc. Even the "definitive" 58-page writeup on clutch replacement doesn't tell you how to actually install the clutch! (It's more of a how to remove the transmission writeup).

That's fine, since both of these resources complement each other very well.
