hey guys. i got a 96 civic with a jdm b18c motor and used a auto EX harness with obd2a-obd1 jumper harness. everything runs nice but i can't seem to get my reverse lights to come on. i checked fuse under the dash for 'backup' and its fine. both rear reverse light bulbs appear to be OK. what could be the problem?

 

problem is you're using an auto harness. you have to wire in the reverse lights.

You have to extend the wires from the switch at transmission, thru the firewall, and into the harness by the shifter. Gimme a sec and I will run outside and check which wires. I think its the two tiny wires and the top of the connector that used to plug into your auto shifter

 

you just have to repin it at the ecu side. the auto harness has the same plug that it uses for the shift solenoids but its pinned at a different spot. just swap the wires at the ecu side

 

crap...disregard. Mine is a 95. Not sure if 96 is the same. You would need wire scemetics to see what wires to use

 

same with 95. i did a auto to 5 speed in a 93 lx and all i had to do was repin the harness

 

Which pins were these? And to clarify car was originally 5 speed and I don't see any harness that runs along the center console area

 

thats because you have a manual cabin harness. i'll find you the pinout momentarily

 

upon thinking since you car is a 5 speed originally you should do nothing. the auto and 5 speed harness are physcially the same. so id check the switch at the transmission. jump the wires with the car on and see if the reverse lights come on. if not, then the bulbs are bad. if so the switch is bad.

 

I had a b16 swap in before the b18 and same problem
... I jumped the harness at the tranny and tried to see if the reverse light came on but with no luck

 

like i said, you're using an automatic engine harness. reverse lights on the automatic come from the gear selector, so wiring for the reverse switch would not be on the engine harness. wire it in from the switch to where it meets the dash harness.
