I have 2002 Civic EX and would like to know what the pro and cons of removing the res chamber just before the air filter. Is it needed? what is the function of it in the first place?

They're designed to silence noise coming from the engine.

Removing it won't yield anything but a noise increase. You won't see a performance gain.

 

Pros: None

Cons: It looks stupid.


Buy an intake if you don't like the OEM one. Even then, performance gains are negligible.
