Default Screatching sound when i brake

just recently my front left brake has been making a sound like a sword is being sharpened
i check the brakes and they were fine i decided to replace the brake pads and went for a test drive and heard the same thing
Does anyone know what it could be
it only happens when i brake at low speeds
thanks

Check the caliper. See if it's frozen/seized up.

Also check your dust guard to make sure it isn't scraping on anything. They're thin - they can bend easily.

Good call. If it's scraping, simply bend it back into shape by hand.

One of the best ways for testing Ive found is drive it at speed for a few minutes ie on the highway stop without using the brakes too much at touch the rotors to see if they are hot they should normally be coldish to the touch. If there warm/hot more than likely a seizing caliper. A picture of the rotor could be helpful. Another way is to jack up the car and rotate the the hub with the tyre off. I should not be too hard to rotate.

YA it does sound like your caliper is seized up, or not releasing back after brakes are applied

I have duralast pads and I have drilled and slotted rotors....I don't think that the problem is that the caliper isn't releasing....and the rotor spun freely when I spun it by hand....it sometimes makes the noise when I make right tuns

I have recently developed the Same Problem... on the Rt. side...
Loud screeching sound when braking and turning left. Not a brake squeel,or squeek, a loud Screech. exactly how I'd think the thin metal dust shield would sound scraping on something.
I have changed Pads and bent the dust shield away from everything and it seems tight and secure. how, where can i tighten the shield ?
The Caliper seems good but I will try and check it better tomorrow...
