Default 89 civic CEL code 16

well got my car running but when it start it idles like crap.
got a code 16 which is fuel injector.

and sounds like my car is running on 3 cylinders.
did a compression test and its 180 across the cylinder.
spark plugs are all black!
car has a b18 swap coverted to obd1!
smells like alot of gas from the exhaust like its running really rich

checked ohms for my injectors and was getting 2.6 ohms on all injectors. seems pretty low for an obd1.

any help appreciated

I would start your troubleshooting by looking at this page from the factory service manual.

Hope this helps!

2.6 ohms...i am assuming you still have the resistor pack in there?

-Measure resistance across the terminals of each injector.

-Test whether all 4 injector clips get battery voltage. If so, test whether the voltage reaches the 4 ECU pins.

no resistor pack. this is a obd1 converted. just got the car. i dont think this would be obd0 injectprs. thi harness is for obd1. would obd1 injector clips fit on obd0 injectors?

tested the resistance and im getting 2.5-2.6

on the injector clips i test it on both pins? wgat voltage should i be getting?

What injectors do you have? The stock B18 injectors should have 10-13 Ohms.

One of the two terminals in the unplugged injector clip should have battery voltage (~12.5V) to body ground.

rechecked my resistNce on the injectors there all getting 2.6
i did what helms manual said check if injectos are clicking.
there all clicking good.

found out #3 injector is leaking.
will the leaking trigger the CEL?

2.6 ohm injectors should have a resistor pack. hondas and acuras need 10-13 ohms to function properly so they do that by the injector having the correct ohms or the injector plus the resistor pack. get the right injectors or get the resistor pack in there.

leaks will not trigger the code, unless the injector is so broken that it will not function electrically.

im guessing that the car is running like crap cause of the injectors?
i cant seem to fine the plug for the resistor box im just gonna get myself obd1 injectors.

why am i getting code 16 then? could not running the resistor box trigger the code?

Code 16 is a fuel injector circuit problem. The incorrect injector resistance is throwing the code.

ordered my self the correct injectors. will update as soon as i get them.
the car starts and all but idles at 100 pretty damn low.
when i rev it to 2-3k rpm drops and dies.

Couple of vids how my car is idling on low imp. injectors. With no resistor box on obd1 swap b18. Not sure if the injectors are causing it to idle like this. Still waiting for my obd1 injectors

Don't worry CEL is for code 16-fuel injector and code 41-o2 sensor

Update: Did a valve lash just today and now its having couple of probs
It sounds like its only cranking on 3 cylinders
Have to give it gas in order for to idle and not die.

let me know what you think
havent changed the fuel injector yet but it started and idles before valve adjustment.

fix the problems you know of first before trying to tackle others...you may be surprised when something works better, plus you are less likely to burn your ecu out (which will eventually happen with the wrong injectors!).

Update: started the car just to warm up.
revved the car all the way to 6800 and it just died.
decided not too touch the car and do the valve lash.

right after valve lash it sounded like one cylinder has no compression.
did comp test
#1-no compression
#2- 150
#3- 180
#4-180

did i bent a valve causing no compression?

yes i did, code 16 was leaking fuel injector.
and the no compression was wrong settings for the valve lash.
put stock specs and got good compression all cylinders

try and do a valve lash use stock settings.
make sure timing is correct and do a compression test.
for the code 16 check if theres and voltage going to your injectors.
for the code 10 try replace that sensor.
as for the bouncing rev limiter get yourself a tach and see whats it doing.
Had this prob last week. it would bounce around 4k it was my dizzy.
replaced it and everything is cherry

Did you replace the whole dizzy or just the coil ? OR maybe the igniter ?
