P/S fluid changing on a 92 accord
Anyone have any experience with this? I checked my p/s fluid levels today, pulled some out and its dark chocolate brown i think its time for a change haha. Im kind of at a loss as to what i should do since its pretty damn cramped on that side of the engine bay. Any helps or tips for this? Ty in advance guys
There are 2 methods:
1) Remove the return hose, you'll need another person to help. If you have 2 people even better. Get at least 3 bottle of new Honda PS fluid. You want to use only Honda's brand. One person inside the car to crank the engine and turn the steering wheel lock to lock. One person in charge of pouring in new fluid to keep the reservoir fill to avoid the pump burn out. The 3rd person in charge of keeping the return hose in the waste bucket. Once you see new fluid, stop, turn engine off, reconnect return hose, top off the fluid to full mark only. Done.
2) Jack the front of the car off ground completely on jack stands. Get some thing to suck the old fluid out of the reservoir all the way to the bottom. Then put in new fluid. Turn on the engine, turn the steering wheel lock to lock 3X then back to center. Stop engine, remove and replace new fluid. Doing this about 5X will replace 80% of the old fluid. Just like replacing the tranny fluid, you will mix old and new fluid.
Some thing you might consider is suck the fluid out of the reservoir, take both hoses off the reservoir, then clean the little round screen on the bottom of the reservoir. This has been known to clog some times.
The new fluid is clear in the bottle but it will turn to light yellow brown once expose to the air. So if you are using method 2, be aware of the color change.
