CEL code 8 on F22B1
Hello all, any help would be great, I thought I had this fixed.
I keep getting a CEL with 8 blinks (Crank Shaft Position Sensor) after I changed the heads on my F22B1. I timed it over and over again. The only thing I did not do is use a screw driver or 6mmx100mm screw to set the balancer gear when doing the timing (kind of just eyeballed it).
I drive the car for a day or so and it runs ok, lacks a bit of power though. Then the next day I drive it, it kicks back, stalls and the check engine light comes on again.
Today I started the car and just warmed it up and the same code triggered. Could I be off by that much on the balancer gear or timing that it causes this? Any tips on retiming it....I'm considering taking to the dealership to time it but I hate to drop the cash if it is such a small change on the timing.

If your timing is off this would not trigger the code. This sensor tells the ECU/PCM where the crank is in its rotation, this then allows the computer to know when to fire the plugs and injectors. If this sensor is failing it will not allow the engine to run, or run properly. Then you would get the code.
Check the wire harness of the crank position sensor, verify that it is not damaged. If this checks out then your sensor may simply be failing.
This is on a 94. I recently replaced the distributor when the CEL first came on with a reman from Advance Auto Parts, the CEL came on again and I was able to swap out the Distro for another reman.....perhaps the problems is in my Harness as you said? I can check that.....any thoughts on the slight lack of power? (not that its a pocket rocket) but prior I could feel a nice strong pick up in the mid range (Vtec kicking in). Not noticing a vacuum leak or anything....idles nice a quiet????
