Default CF Velocity stacks

Here is my DIY stacks progress. i had CNC'ed a male mould with the proper ratios and laid out a test stack from 7725 CF pre-preg cloth, autoclaved at around 250 degrees. i am happy with the interior quality, especially the transition between the SS flange and the cloth. not happy with the raw feel and look of the exterior, although frivolous (it will all be concealed by the charge box) i made a caul plate mould out of flexible silicone that will slide over the last layer of CF before bagging and autoclave. that will ensure a smooth exterior.

the second attempt with a silicone caul plate came out of the autoclave, my boss said it looks great, i haven't seen it, been sick, will post photos of it ASAP.

i scrapped the idea for these stacks on the CRX (they are too long to fit inside the charge plenum), but they happen to fit SU carburettor. i'll adapt a flange and snap some photos of them on a Zcar.

I bet they'd work on mine

What kind of mold did you use on the first? Simple male/female plug type?

And I'm curious as to why go through all the trouble of an autoclave (unless you have one laying around then I'm jealous) but for most of what we would use... wet layup, pre preg, or even vacuum bagging would be sufficient. Especially on something like a stack.. a simple 3k, single layer would be plenty

Another cool way I thought of doing stacks was with 3k sleeve, most sleeve (not unilateral) has enough freedom to give you the differing profiles/diameters using a double sleeve part

I do have a mold idea for stacks using traditional cloth that would provide a uniform, clean finish on both sides of the part... but its getting everything right to prototype the mold.

I might have finally found a job and I'll be getting a 3d printer asap so I can print prototype parts for mockup and for test molds before wasting a bunch of consumables. Should make things go quickly... I could even print stuff for you

the mould is a CNC'ed piece of aluminium that i had machined by a friend. i had also made a female "sleeve" out of silicone that went over the carbon to put more uniform pressure.
this was done with 3k pre-preg, cut into a template, i think around 15 pieces per stack. then the sleeve, then the bag and an autoclave (i used that because we had one). this was really just a teaching tool for me. if you are serious about wanting these, we can arrange something. i am not married to them being used on the zcar.

i could have used CF tube, but this was literally done with scraps of material that we used for drone building, so it cost me 0 dollars.

here are two photos of the mould.
you can see the templates cut out of the pre-preg in the first photo.
(and in the second photo that's a table i made, BTW )

i've abandoned these stacks for the CRX use, for this.

the stacks are going to be adapted for SU carburettors on my 240Z.
