Default Identifying Syncro's & Syncro Sleeve/hub (bseries)

What's up h-tech,

I'm getting ready to start tackling the transmission section of my build, I have an 01 ITR TransmIssion but the casing is no good so I'll just be using a spare ls transmission for parts. I got the ITR tranny disassembled (only countershaft was together) so I'm in the process of checking the teeth on all gears and syncros.

So I found my syncros look literally new but the gears have some visible wear. Only thing is the tranny wasn't together so I don't even know which gear is which, I know the 5th Gear n 3-4th look alike and one is bigger but which? Same with 1-2.

Is there a spec sheet I can look at or be directed to maybe so I can identify these gears, maybe a chart with the dimensions of each gear? I checked 'alldata' which turned out being some data.

Thanks in advance!

CS 1st is the largest, 5th is the smallest. MS 3rd is the smallest, 5th is the largest.

Order yourself a Helms manual. You will need it so you know where to check clearances and how to shim the mainshaft and diff.

Haynes is a no-go. You might be able to get your local Honda dealer to print out the trans section for you from the Helms. Not likely but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

You'll need the OEM tools for the mainshaft. Base and mainshaft holder as well as a metal plate, magnetic base, and dial indicator. The P/N's will be in the Helms. I can look them up tomorrow and post them if you'd like. They're around $200 iirc.

I need it there for anytime access though, especially all the DIY work I do. I'm a newbie to most of this but it's all there if you read up on it, thought I only needed to retolerance the LSD with the new case and bearing.. But how would I I.d the syncro's?

My counter shaft is assembled and for the main shaft if I'm not mistaken there's only three correct?
But are my question is are the two smaller ones on the main shaft the same/ interchangeable?

-Ray

You need to shim the mainshaft as well. The two larger synchros on the mainshaft are interchangable. The two smaller synchros are not. If you look at the two small synchros the teeth on one of them when viewed from teh side will be thicker, this is the reverse synchro (goes on the free floating cone). The Helms manual will show you all of this.
