Tranny idea...very hypothetical
Okay, I just had the crazy idea. I have no idea if this would be possible but I think it would be kinda cool for road racing.
Build a tranny with no 1st gear... or rather put a tall 2nd gear in 1st gear's position and then run 2-5 from a vtec tranny where 1-4 should be and use 5th from a b18b. Then throw in a tall FD (either JDM type R or aftermarket unit).
Just pulling from a honda b-series parts bin you could do:
1st 2.105
2nd 1.458
3rd 1.107
4th 0.848
5th 0.714
Now use a JDM ITR FD of 4.785 and you have a close ratio tranny with 5 usable gears. Assuming 7000 redline for a non-vtec, 1st tops out at about 48 mph and 5th at 140. I know there's also a 4.9xx FD available for bseries trannies. This would probably be better depending on the application and the track. btw, all these gear ratios are quoted from bseries.net
Anyway, just to satisfy my curiosity, is this possible?

Well, I've given you guys a couple days to think of something to say, like for instance, "No, you (expletive deleted) there is no (expletive deleted) way that could possibly work!" or "You are GOD!" or anything in between. 29 people have read it but no responses. C'mon, gimme something.
Mista Bone, I'm not a guru of course, but from looking inside a tranny, and maybe even from your page, not sure, I got an idea that gears 1 and 2, 3 and 4 could be flipped over (3 with 4 and 1 with 2).
Just curious.
Just curious.
nope, 1 and 2 are machined into the countershaft. 3-4 could be swapped, but that requires alot of fancy machining or using parts from a 92-95 tranny.
