2000 civic lx ball joint help!!
Hey guys. So I brought my car in for a safety ( canada ) and it was quoted at $1500 worth of work, bs. In any case, most of it was ball joints and such, so I've ordered a steering overhaul kit if you want to call it that.
I've gotten all the nuts loose and removed except for the lower ball joint one shown in the picture below ( I am removing the knuckle as my buddy can press it at his shop). I can't for the life of me get that damn ball joint bolt out. I've tried hammer, I didn't have a fork, but I made one out of a pry bar ( its 10 pm so i had to improvise) and still won't come out. How the hell can I get it out, and does anyone know of any good tools for ball joint pressing and removing, cheap.
On a side note, how do you know if the axle was pulled out too much ( i've been wiggling it ).

i used that on mine, if i am understanding what the problem your having correctly is, i couldnt get mine off as well and that popped it right off. but if you are planning on re-using the ball joint be careful, i was and the force from it pushing on the ball joint actually square the threads and i had to buy a new one.
so if you are planning to re-use put something to keep some space between the tool itself and the bottom of the ball joint.
think that answers your question. unless your trying to smack the ball joint out of the whole knuckle itself..than if thats where your stuck did you remove the little c-clip holding it in?
sorry for the kinda confusing answer, hope that helps.

I will run in to trouble removing it from the knuckle, but i'm taking the knuckle completely off so i'm not there yet. I'm just trying to get that damn bolt off..

it should come out with a hammer if u put the up aframe back together.. at the most use a 3lb mini sludge hammer and something to pry down with.. it should pop out... but that dont work ur gunna need a fork... oh and try lubing it up a lil bit
that is how i did mine. yes to remove the whole knuckle from the whole car itself that tool will help you out a whole lot. and if your replacing the ball joints which it sounds like you are, dont worry about messing up the threads cuz youll have a new one.
but when it comes to removing the ball joint from the knuckle there is a little c-clip that holds the ball joint on. use some needle nose pliers and remove that. than smack it with a BFH and you should be just fine!

Thanks guys, unfortunately it will take too long to get to me I'm in canada...but i will look for one here tomorrow. Any reccomendations on tools to get it out of the knuckle, and press it back in if my buddy doesn't come thru?
