Suspension set up questionsss!
Hi Guys,
Ater tons of researches about suspension set ups, it seems that the best is a set of GC coilovers with Koni shocks.
I live out side the US and it will be costly to ship to my country, so i dont want to regret buying this set up.
I have a 00 civic si, I am planning to get the spring rates of 340F/250R.
Set the height of almost zero gap but not tucking tires, the below pic is an approximate sample photo of the height ride im looking for.
And im not goin to buy the extended top hats.
Wheels size is 16*7 with 205/45 tires.
Please i need to know if things will be going fine regarding the springs rate, ride height, using stock top hats and will I face any shock buttoming out or bad ride quality!! taking into consideration that the roads in her are not really perfect!
Thx

I think you'll be fine with that stiffness for the front. I know people that slam their car and have 350lb front springs, they seem fine with it.
I would go a bit stiffer in the back... 250 seems a little soft to me. I would say at least 280 to 300 at the rear.
Now since I'm not a slammed guy perse.. I dunno how not having extended top-haps will affect anything and if that would be cause to go with even stiffer springs.

Ohhh mann, i guess that goona give a harshhh ride and it will be so annoying to dirve coz i know our roads really sux.
So i understand that that i cant go low as im planning with 380-250.
Either I have go with the rate u suggested or I have to keep with a 2 finger gap with the spring rate i was going for.

if the roads were all as smooth as glass, you could probually get away with it. But those rates are quite low for that ride height. Even a 2 finger gap is pushing it.
I have to agree with Marc on the spring rates..
a 350 out back really isn't that bad. But you are going to pay the price if you want to be low.

340/250 is a pretty quality ride. but you may run into mild issues with bottoming out the suspension.
this is much more appropriate, but with what seems like i mild increase in spring rate, the ride will be significantly stiffer.

Ur saying GC 340/250 are not enough for such drop.
Progess coilovers features states the following:
-Front drop: 1" to 3" --- Rear drop: 1" to 3"
-Front rate: 350 lbs/in --- Rear rate: 250 lbs/in
So it seems Progess coilovers can handle the drop that i want with almsot same rates i suggested.
The point now is why the above GC rates cant handle the drop! while Progess are offering a drop up to 3 inches.
It is really confusing to decide, dunno exactly what pluses does GC/koni might have over progress.

Just because Progress is capable of a 3" drop DOES NOT mean that the spring rate is suitable for it. If you ALSO read the details on the Progress website they list an OPTIMAL ride height. I suggest you follow THAT instead. I would ALSO advise you to listen to people that know what they are talking about. PROGRESS IS NOT FOR SLAMMING YOUR CAR!!!
I agree with grumpy on the rates as well as the above statements.
You want to allow the shock to have its full travel, the lower you go the less travel you will have. Thats why the top hats come into play when you run the off the shelf konis that have not been shortened, to allow more travel.
You can run that height with top hats probably and be ok.....or you can just not have the car that low and enjoy the suspension working properly....
I get the whole slammed look but, save that for shows. Make sure you get a good 4 wheel alignment after you install the suspension and lower.
