I would like to know if the transmissions on this newer D-series 1.7 is interchangeable with other models of the civic with in 2001-2005.
So be it an LX, HX, EX, etc... can you mix and match if you want, like the *REAL* d-series from 88-00?
Bought a used car that needs some major work, the buyer told me it was a head gasket and when i drove it down the street, it would barely make it up the hill. Seemed like the whole transmission is going on. Just to get it going i would have to rev the engine into N and drop it into D just to get the damn thing moving. Never a dull moment.

You don't want to mix automatic transmissions. Use an EX for an EX, or a DX/LX for a DX/LX. And, no, you cannot use one from an earlier generation of Civic. 2001-2005 only.
Clogged filter? I suppose it's possible, but it's unlikely. How many miles are on the transmission? What's the ATF level at? Condition of the fluid is okay? Have you done a drain-and-strain to see how contaminated with debris it is?

I’ll be getting out of work in about 3 hours and then I will over look the car in the day light. Unfortunately by the time I got home with it yesterday, it was already dark outside. If anything I will be buying the external oil filter and cooler kit you guys have been using. Depending on other tale, tale signs when I get home with transmission fluid and color, I may have to buy the rebuild kit for it.
This is a whole new learning curve with my first Automatic Honda. lol..
But really before I do anything I will be replacing the head gasket. The car is going to the wife so I want to make sure everything is done proper and safe to drive.
Thanks for the direct response.

I spent most of the afternoon trying to clean up the interior, started to take the top end off. I have not checked the trans fluid yet. Checked the dipstick and of course the engine is cold. Level is a little higher than the top line, and fluid seems to be clean.
