Default car randomly loses alll power-- maybe fuel pump?

ok so i was driving up to school today and im on the interstate and cruising at about 3.5k to 4k rpms and randomly its like im not getting any gas and i just start coasting and there isnt any response from the gas pedal. but when i go to neutral it idles fine (with a slight bounce from 500 to 1000 but its always done this an no problem so idk if this helps) and then i shift back into 5th from idle and i have all power back and can drive normal. this happends everywhere from 5 minutes apart to once or twice an hour.

The fuel pump could be going bad. I had a similar problem in my old CRX, ended up being the main relay. there's a write up somewhere on how to test those relays. plus they're a lot easier to change than a fuel pump.

ride it out when it feels like it's gonna die out. see if it throws a check engine light.

ok i took it down to about 1.5k from 4k. i got a code but i always get a code from coasting in gear after about 10 seconds. i havent been able to check what it is yet. and it goes away when the car shuts off. when im driving i can just shut my car off and turn it back on as soon as it comes on and its gone.

but i have been looking how to get the ecu to blink and i will be checking that when the rain stops or some time in the next few days that i dont have class or work

also would a main relay from a 91 lx sedan work in my crx? i have a sedan rusting away in my yard

The code could possibly be stored in the computer. Lift up the passenger side carpet and look at the ECU window and turn the ignition to II. Leave it on and see if the LED on the ECU blinks.

Check your distributor cap and wires, mine was doing the same thing on rainy days because the distributor cap got wet

that would make sense. my car was garage kept but now that im back to school it isnt and water gets i a little from a hood vent. also i pulled the code and it is #17 vss speed sensor. it makes sense since when i replaces my trans i messed up the cable. and havent had it hooked up for a few weeks. why would i only get the check engine light for that when im coasting in gear?

i know that not vss means no vtec. but thats why i havent went over into where vtec would be. just curious what damage would happen from running higher rpms with no vtec
