Turbo fans in Air Intakes. Fad or Real?
To be honest I don't believe anything car related until I check H-T.

A complete scam; there is no way on Earth that puny little thing could possibly keep up with the demands of even a small engine much less aid in volumetric efficiency.
They only spin from the suction of the downward stroke of the pistons so to move it takes energy and it has to cost somewhere...and yeah...let that fall apart and go through the engine....I used to weld on power plants here in cali and I was on a turbine that was 30 ft long and 15 ft dia gigantic blades and a paper towel roll was left in the intake piping...looked like someone through a bowling ball through it at high speed....so even alum and plastic can destroty internals if paper towels could do that
Your question is worded incorrectly. Are they real? Sure. Do they work? Not a chance in hell.
Every once in a while someone will "discover" these and the hype makes them sound like they could be a viable tool but they are not.

What you need to understand op is basic physics.
We live in 14.7 psi.
When boosting a engine we create positve pressure into our engines. (14.7 plus)
That p.o.s. on the intake in that vid is doing nothing but creating a spiral.
Unless your making positve pressure and adding more air into the smaller combustion chambers there's no way to add more fuel and create more energy transfered into hp.
And the suction created by our engines is not a vacume its simply the absence of atmosphere so, what we refer to as a vacume in our engines is an empty space in our atmosphere being filled.

there was only one real electric turbocharger I know of that ever worked, and it was pretty much a prototype, it used three motors to spin the turbo and it was only good for a short amount of time, it ran on a bank of three batteries in the trunk odyssey type ones, it was good for applications such as drag racing, short merges in traffic etc, it was setup to let the batteries charge between bursts, it wasn't any fan in the intake crap,it was quite an extensive setup, there should be articles up on the web, really fascinating stuff
