This might be a stupid question, but im curious
Im not sure why, but i always thought that a fmic took air from the front of the car into the intake manifold. But it takes its air from the turbo connected to the other side of the intercooler, so how is the air being pushed out from the turbo, colder then lets say, the air an CAI sucks up?

Well the air passing through the intercooler and how efficient it is at cooling the air is what determines how cool it will be .The purpose of the turbo isnt how cool the air will be its how much air will be delivered to the engine?

The air goes from one end to the other, while in this transition it goes throught an area that is devided and has fins through it. The fins transfer the heat from the air in the inside, and the outside air that flows THROUGH THE FINS cools the fins and consequently the inside air. Does that answer the question. It is like a radiator, but instead of having water in there you have air. I guess that is right, but who knows

The air from the turbo, intercooled or not, is going to be hotter than anything a CAI sucks in.
The purpose is to cool the air as much as possible before it gets to the intake manifold. The air coming out of an intercooler will still be hotter than air that's sucked up by a CAI. The difference is that with a turbo there's a lot more air being forced in.

Yea the turbo gets Really Really hot, And when you compress air it gets even hotter. The FMIC just cools off the hot charged air befor the engine breaths it. Even after the fmic its probaly still hotter then a Cold air intake, But its way cooler then strait from the turbo.
