Default lower timing cover removal.

i have all of the 10 mm bolts off that hold it up. the crank bolt removed, the auto tensioner bolt that i believe is a 15 mm is removed. but there is on 10mm bolt that is under the engine mount. it has a pin inserted into it that you need to remove in order to loosen it..

well i have the pin out and i tried undoing it with a 10mm wrench. got it super loose but it will not completely come out, so i cannot remove the timing cover...

how do i get it all the way out is there something im missing?

hey i just did this a few days ago on a 00 i just bought.. be very very carefull with that long bolt that has the pin in it.
once the pin is out the cover will slide over it.. it will not obstruct the cover from coming off...
however that bolt goes through the balance shaft tensioner and cannot be removed untill the covers are off.. but if that long bolt with the pin in it is as loose as you say, you may have done the exact same thing i did.. i actually broke a piece of the water pump because that where that bolt bottoms out... it goes through the balance shaft tension into the water pump. this will make sense once youve removed the cover

double check and make sure all your 10mills are out.. alldata wants you to remove the dipstick tube but i got around this... and there is one thats pretty hard to see on the back side almost right where that crank sensor harness conector is

yea i have it off. the bolt unscrews all the way but then it gets stuck it wont come completely off, itll just sit there and spin so loose i can spin ti with my finger.. on the outside of the bolt theres a rubber washer seal. do i need to pop that off and then the cover slips over the bolt or what? i cannot figure it out. id take a picture but its too dark.

okay so it will just slide off over the bolt with the pin and the rubber gromet then right? alright ill give it a try in just a bit thanks.

and as far as messing all the other timing components up im replacing everything under the cover so im not too concerned aboutit.

ill let u know if i get it,.

alright i got everything off on the timing side now i just need t really clean out the grease.

and if anyone stumbles upon this thread, when you try to remove the timing cover after you have all the 10mm bolts undone, what you want to do is wiggle the lower timing belt cover off of the bolt with the pin and rubber seal(youll need to pull off the seal). then grab the bottom of the lower timing belt cover and rotate clockwise so the bottom is facing the headlight(turn it towards 8-9 o'clock) . from there you can wiggle it off and pull it towards the headlight and it should come right off. the only way you can get it off that way is if youve removed the a/c condenser and the alternator.

(H22A4 2000) do i need to remove the top timing cover for the top too? i got 4 of 5 10 mm bolts ( the ones on passangr side and behind crank pulley) cant find the 5th, i gto the 14mm out and the pin out from the long 10mm but didnt remove the bolt, the bottoms all off but it wont come off at the top as i would just be able to slide it off the pined bolt and down and out. What am i missing?

Yes you need to remove the top cover, the lip holds the lower cover in place against the engine mount.

thanks got the cover off after litterally two hours I had two nuts strip on the stud. I’m having a lot of trouble with the two 10mm on the top timing cover above the engine mount, they are so rusted they are about to strip. Any suggestions?

big thanks

That's tough, those shouldn't rust...I like to use a ratcheting flex head wrench for those ones, but you may need to get a socket on there with a bar to break it loose.
