Crankshaft broke after timing belt replacement. Am I being ripped off?
Hey y'all,
I had the timing belt replaced a month ago.
Driving about 40 the other day when my engine suddenly cut off. I still had power and there was no stuttering. After stopping the car I turned the key. The starter would run, but sounded faster that normal and the engine would not turn. Didn't sound like there was any compression. The first mechanic I brought it to said it was probably the timing belt.
After I had her towed back to the mechanic that replaced the timing belt they said that the timing belt looked fine, but that not all the valves were working. Crankshaft issue probably.
I don't know if they had replaced the tensioner, and I know that can cause those kinds of problems. They say it'll be $2.5k min. I can't shake the feeling that I am being ripped off due to their mess up.
What do you guys think? Any advice is much appreciated.

There should have been noise preceding the crankshaft breaking, if indeed it did break. I highly doubt it did, though. I would definitely have it taken to a reputable certified Honda dealership, to see what they make of it. Even if the crankshaft is toast, you would need an engine replacement... which shouldn't cost more then $1500 or so (if you have a dealership do it for you).
Ended up having a second mechanic who's also a friend call them and hear what they say. He said all he could hear was a bunch of balogne. So now I'm having it towed over to my friend so he can see what's up. High suspicion that it's a timing belt issue. The original mechanic didn't even replace the tensioner at 210k miles...
