Throwout Bearing/Clutch?
I have an 02 accord coupe, 4 cylinder, 2.3 l Manual 5 speed, 180,000 miles
I can hear a chirping noise but when i press the clutch it goes away. Though I am no mechanic, through reading and a little trouble shooting, I diagnosed this as the throwout bearing. Ive been driving this car for about 8 months since then and its getting worse and worse trying to shift as it grinds the gear.
I am looking to sell this car but dont want to spend a fortune fixing it as I plan to take it to a reputable mechanic and telling him exactly the work I want done. I was reading earlier that I should replace the Input shaft bearing as well and that may be where the problem lies anyway.
Any help about how I should go about fixing this issue would be great help as Ive been a lurker in these forums for a while but just not enough mechanically inclined to figure this out on my own.
Also, I have already purchased a throwout bearing. As I plan on purchasing all the parts I need before taking to the mechanic to avoid over charges.

do a clutch, throw out bearing, and seals... Input shaft bearing can go bad but normally it will make noise all the time. To replace it is pretty exspensive to do and somewhat alot of work because you have to take the trans apart. Use a Exedy clutch and nsk throw out, and oem seals for the axles and you will be good to go.
thanks guys, going to get some silicone spray now. Should i spray it directly on the throwout bearing? If it doesnt help at all i may have to change the throwout bearing and put a clutch in which I was told would run me about 400 in labor. Thanks, update after I spray!
I'm pretty sure it would hard to spray anything on the TO bearing without removing the trans. If you go and spray blindly you run the risk of contaminating the clutch disc with a lubricant. I think he meant to remove the slave, then lube the tip and reinstall. You can probably move the trans far away enough to just change the TO bearing without having to take too much apart.
No, don't remove anything and don't spray into the clutch housing at all.
When looking down onto the slave cylinder, you will see the ball in this pic...

..the very left part of part number 10.
spray a lil bit on that ball piece as it rests inside that rounded casing. That's the ball piece that moves as you press the clutch. See if the sound goes away.
