in need of an opinion...should i run e85?
i am building a b16a for my 95 eg hatch my neighbor says i should run e85 on it i was just wondering if its a good idea or just run 93 octane? thanks
auto x and road course its a b16a with eagle rods, arias pistons 11.5:1 compression, type r head, type r cams, skunk2 intake, cai, exhaust
Ive done a considerable amount of research on the topic. (e85 vs hi octane but not in a go fast manner)
in relation to just e85 vs regular gas (again, not performance related) it comes out pretty fair. Ive run both and I prefer e85 in all settings. I think the car performs better, I feel that mpg increase (however studies have shown most mpg drops) and I sorta feel better buying it. Its easy to find in metro NY, so it makes sense for me personally, however I have no idea access in Chi town.
Im not certain, but Im fairly certain you'll need the conversion kit to have your ecu/injectors accept the e85 and then a tune it accordingly. Conv kits are about 300, not a huge deal. E85 here is about a quarter less a gallon, however my tank is 9 gallons so I save 2 bucks a fill up. Not much to write home about, and it takes about a year to break even on the 300 buck investment.
If your just building a straight b16, you probably aren't going to notice any meaningful difference in performance. E85 runs I believe comparable to 105 octane. Without a semi serious build, it wont amount to much.
With the severe drought in the midwest atm, I wouldn't advise tuning your vehicle on anything that requires the amount the corn e85 requires to produce.

i have hondata s300 to tune and have injector dynamic 1000cc injectors already so its capable of running the e85 i just wanted some input other than my own on running e85 i was also told it runs cooler not sure if its true or not
holy ****! 1000cc injectors on a non turbo'd car.
youll be fine with OEMs or even 310's if your staying in NA form. quite a bit of overkill if you ask me.
93 should be fine. your not going to get detonation if your tuner knows what hes doing.
E85 is also overkill IMHO

i got the 1000s for a killer deal and we tuned them down they run amazingly at idle i had stock ones but one started to leak i also got them beccause id didnt know what i wanted to do it was either nitrous or e85 lol
e85 isn't going to run cooler....its still combusted in the engine. Operating temps are exactly the same.
lol, and yea 1000cc are a bit much no?
stick with regular gas.
