Hello. I bought an LED strip I want the led to turn on and
off with the dome light. That's it. Dome on led on. Dome off led off. So I hooked up led + to dome light fuse and. Then grounded. But the led strip stays on ? How do I get it to work with the dome light? Thanks for reading. I have. 94 del sol

can I just hook it up to the remote wire for my amp?

With the relay, you have a ground, power, load and switch. Ground to ground. Power to constant power (or for that matter, ign switch or the source you're relying on to turn on the power). Load to device being powered. Switch is the source turning the relay on. With the proper relay, you could run it off just about anything. For a low current device, a transistor could probably work also. It works like a relay, except it's digital instead of solid state.

The reason it's staying on with it wired to the dome light fuse is that the fuse is always getting power. With the dome light, you would have to either wire into the wiring that turns it on when the doors open, or when the switch is turned on physically, or just directly into the socket the bulb plugs in.

I think it might be a nuisance having it only on with the dome light, or always coming on with the dome light. I would find an extra blockoff panel for the dash at a junkyard, drill a hole in it, and mount a switch, leaving room to add more later if you want. Then you can turn it on when you want, and not hack up your dash.

 

well thank u very much. I like that reply. I have the led under the door itself. as in to light up the curb. for my white sneakers (my kicks :-) . I spent all my cash on the system. so no relay money yet! for now I wired it to the remote cable on the amp same as ignition? but I will relay proper.! ill take a pic in a few! thanks again.!

The amp wire is from the head unit, which is not related to the ignition switch wiring. There is an output on the fuse panel that lights up when you turn on the lights I believe. And one that turns on with the ignition. Maybe there's something else that could be tapped into that turns on with the doors being opened.

I really didn't understand why it's necessary having lights to illuminate the curb, though it doesn't seem like a bad idea. If it's what you really want to do, then at least make sure you do it right and don't hack up any factory wiring. Try to find something to tap into with a spade connector or use the crimp splices. Soldering is best but places under the dash, it's not really logical...I still have a scar from molten solder on my foot.

 

The dome light receives a constant 12V, and is ground through the door pin to activate the lights when the slider is in "auto". The third wire to the dome light is a constant ground used for the "on".

It is not tied into ignition, etc.

Those remote leads are generally rated between 50-200ma. I wouldn't put anything on these lines besides a pair of amps without a relay.

 

Thanks guys! my boy heard about the relay issue so he came and helped me out! thank goodness. now its relayed up and powered ^.... to finsh the project 100% i need a on/off switch witch i will order and add later. thanks for the help and advice ! i took a video its "OK" dont do the car justice.... ill latger do a vid for the system but here are the LEDs thanks again !
