94 civic ex sudden death
i am having a prople going past 5500rpm... also has low idel and after long tips (25 mile or longer) when coming to a complete stop car dies.. would this have anything to do with having a bad VSS?

If the vss isn't working then your vtec will not engage.
This could also be your problem with the car shutting off.
Before just changing the sensor verify that you have the correct voltage going into the sensor. And that your ground is okay. Meaning continuity to your chasis. If those two readings check out then monitor your output voltage to the ecu.

Problem might exist in the ecu itself then.
Check over all your grounds, all the wiring, check all the pins on the ecu side. Take the connectors off the ecu and check all the pins make sure none look coroded, pushed out of the connector
Check all the connectors and make sure the pins look ok. Not corroded etc.
Hook up a code reader on the car and go over all the sensor data if its all on point and no sensors are off then swap ecu's.
Or just swap the ecu and keep going from there, if this were my car I would do the first step up top.

damn and the ecu was replaced from the previous owner... ok thanks for the heads up i'll start check things out another day when there is day light
ok i have checked out the ECU and i think i found the problem. on the ECU some one wrote on it like if it came out of a junk yard. AUTOMATIC now the numbers on it is 37820-p06-A02 and under that 740-64 AUI is this really the wrong ECU
ps... my civic is manual
