Icon6 94 Civic: Bouncing Speedo

Now i hope someone on here can help me with my bouncing speedometer. I drive a 94 Honda civic and the problem with the speedo is if I'm moving with the flow of traffic say 40mph the speed will say something like 20-25mph or it will bounce +/- 10 mph or more of the actual speed I'm doing. I changed the speed sensor out with one from a salvage yard cleaned up too but i guess that one could of been bad too it did stop for a week but its doing it again.

should i buy a brand new speed sensor or could it be the speedo itself?

Replace your speed sensor. Mine did that and replacing it fixed the problem but before you do that check out the wiring to it and make sure its not frayed or anything. You can try another used one. I would buy one off here that someone vouches for and knows that it works fine.

Is code 17 thrown? It could be a bad VSS connector (common problem) or even a bad speedo.

I wish this was my case as well. I had the same exact issue and a brand new speed sensor (OEM Honda) didn't fix it. I had to swap speedometer to resolve the issue and guess what? It recently started doing it again (not as bad as with the previous speedometer). Added fact: I swapped the D15 for a B18C and the problem persists. :'o(

I'll have to check that again.

This best fits with a speedo/cluster problem.

Its most likely the circuit card behind the speedo. If your VSS is working then its that card. They are notorious for bad solder joints. There are several threads mentioning this and I am experiancing this for the second time (I replaced the card and it was good. Now whenever Im over 65 mph, my spedometer can fluctuate to over 20 mph higher.)

I have had this happen twice. Once it was loose grounds at the t-stat and the second time was the speedo itself. Swapped with another out the junkyard.
