Hello,
Car: 1996 Civic EX Sedan D16y8 original Transmission with 173,000 miles
Clutch: Unknown brand and unknown mileage
Usage: I don't really beat my car up, some spirited driving like once a week.
Problem: On my way home, I was driving normally when I started to notice the clutch pedal was not able to be pushed down to the floor. Almost as if something was blocking it from reaching the floor. It became increasingly difficult to shift into gear for the next minute and the clutch pedal became stiffer towards the floor. Eventually, I could not shift it into gear.
Today I went to start the car and it would not start. The clutch pedal will travel normally until about 2 inches off the floor where it feels like it is stuck or hitting something, but will come back up as normal. There always used to be a squeak when pressing the pedal down but now it is more pronounced. Fluid level is normal and there are no apparent leaks around the master or slave cylinder.
P.S - I know I should drop the transmission to really find out but I am very busy and would appreciate any advise and suggestions before I take the time to drop the transmission. Thanks

Update:
The problem was a broken/split clutch fork but I pulled the tranny anyway and the clutch was almost worn down completely. Replace with a clutch kit and a new shift fork and it shifts beautifully now.
